Top MLB umpire punished for breaking gambling rules as sport faces next betting scandal in the wake of Shohei Ohtani interpreter drama

Major League Baseball umpire Pat Hoberg has reportedly been disciplined for violating the league’s gambling rules.

During Spring Training, MLB initiated an investigation into Hoberg and a possible violation of its gambling policy. It was not found that Hoberg manipulated or compromised any game he worked on.

Still, the MLB maintained its unspecified discipline of Hoberg, according to The Athletic.

Hoberg is appealing the discipline imposed on him.

Sports betting issues have dominated headlines this MLB season, with Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara pleading guilty to fraud by stealing money from the Dodgers star to pay off his gambling debt.
