Top of the Mark Holiday Apartments, Surfers Paradise drowning: Father and grandfather killed after rescuing toddler

A father and grandfather have died after jumping into a Gold Coast hotel pool to save a fallen toddler.

The men, 38 and 65, were found unconscious in the rooftop pool of the Top of the Mark Holiday Apartments in Surfers Paradise just before 7pm on Sunday.

They were pulled from the pool by bystanders who performed CPR until emergency services arrived, but the pair could not be saved.

The men, 38 and 65, were found unconscious in the rooftop pool of the Top of the Mark Holiday Apartments in Surfers Paradise just before 7pm on Sunday.

A two-year-old child was playing on the edge of the pool when they fell in, prompting their father and grandfather to jump in fully clothed.

Queensland Ambulance Service’s Mitchell Ware said the two adults then got into trouble.

The child was rescued unharmed, while a woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition at the scene.

“It’s an extremely emotional scene,” Mr Ware said.

“Obviously, everyone can understand that you’re not just losing one family member, you’re losing two family members.”

The swimming pool is located on top of the apartment building, a few floors above the street.
