- Also charged with knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime
- Employed by North Sydney Bears as NSW Cup assistant coach
Rugby league coach Andy Alashooty will appear in court later this month after 10 bags of cocaine were reportedly found in his Sydney hotel room when it was searched by police earlier this week.
It comes after police responded to reports of an alleged drug transaction at a licensed premises on Pyrmont St in the city center just after 3am on Monday.
According to a statement from NSW Police, officers spoke to a man aged 35 at the scene before searching his hotel room.
Once inside, police reportedly found ten bags believed to contain cocaine, as well as $3,400 in cash.
Alashooty, from Bonnyrigg Heights, was arrested and taken to Day Street police station.
“He was charged with supplying prohibited drugs (in excess of criminal offenses and less than commercial quantities) and knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
‘He was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Center Local Court on Wednesday 30 October 2024.’
It is understood Alashooty is employed by the North Sydney Bears as an assistant coach of their NSW Cup side but does not work for an NRL club.
