  • Tony Mowbray questioned his position as manager after Tuesday’s defeat
  • Jude Bellingham’s 17-year-old brother Jobe will join Sunderland next season

Tony Mowbray is expected to stay on as Sunderland boss amid speculation over his future – and Jobe Bellingham will join his squad this summer.

The Black Cats manager was questioning his position in the wake of Tuesday’s play-off defeat at Luton.

There are reports that the club are fielding a replacement and the hierarchy have felt no call to quell the rumours, despite Mowbray doing a fantastic job bringing a young side – and an injury-depleted one – to the to lead the top six.

The 59-year-old said: ‘Do I want to be here next season? I do, yes. But let’s see how it goes, and what the summer brings. I don’t know what will happen next.

‘I’ll just get on with it. I have a contract, so I just keep going.’

However, Mail Sport understands that Mowbray will continue and have been making plans for next season in recent days.

Bellingham, 17, will become part of those plans. Last year we revealed that Sunderland were planning a move for the Birmingham midfielder, the younger brother of England star Jude.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, the former manager of Birmingham’s academy, is close to the Bellingham family and has invited them to games at the Stadium of Light.

The deal is likely to cost Sunderland around £3 million.
