  • This comes after an altercation with Perry at an AEW event at Wembley last week
  • Khan has claimed the decision was the toughest of his career to date

All Elite Wrestling president Tony Khan has spoken out about the decision to terminate CM Punk’s contract after an altercation with Jack Perry.

The confrontation reportedly took place at last week’s All In event at Wembley, which saw a week-long investigation to determine the fate of the American.

Punk (aka Phillip Brooks) has seen wrestling and employment contracts terminated with immediate effect when Tony Khan, son of Fulham owner Shahid Khan, was recommended to do so.

The president of the AEW has now taken over Twitter to open up to the decision, which he has admitted is one of the hardest of his career to date.

“Today I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my professional career. Today I terminated Phil Brooks, CM Punk, for good reason,” he said.

“This stems from a backstage incident at AEW All In last Sunday. The incident was regrettable and endangered people backstage. The same goes for the production staff, the people who help put on the show every week, innocent people who have nothing to do with it.’

He continued to reveal that he felt his life was in danger on the London show, the first time he felt this during his wrestling days.

“I’ve been going to wrestling shows for over thirty years. I’ve been producing them on this network for almost four years,” he continued.

“In all that time I never felt, until last Sunday, that my safety, my safety, my life was in danger on a wrestling show.

“I don’t think anyone should feel that way at work, I don’t think the people I work with should feel that way, and I had a really hard choice to make today.

“It came on the recommendation of a Discipline Committee here at AEW, as well as an outside legal counsel, who issued a unanimous opinion, and I followed that recommendation.

Khan continued to apologize to the fans while promising to put on a good show in Chicago without CM Punk.

He said, “I’m sorry for all the fans who are upset by this. I’m sorry to anyone who is upset by this.

“Even though, we’re going to have a great show tonight at Collision, and tomorrow a great All Out pay-per-view here in Chicago.

“Last weekend was the best weekend in AEW history, this is the best week in AEW history. We’re going to continue the great momentum here at Collision and tomorrow night at All Out pay-per-view.”
