Tony Hawk Hints at Something ‘Insanely Exciting’ for Pro Skater’s 25th Anniversary

Is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater coming back… again? Tony Hawk won’t say explicitly, but it certainly sounds like something‘ is happening around the franchise’s 25th anniversary, according to recent comments from the pro skater himself. Hawk himself calls those developments ‘insanely exciting.’

In a new episode of the YouTube channel Mythical kitchen‘s Last Meal series, host Josh Scherer asked Hawk what’s next for the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise as we celebrate its silver anniversary. Hawk, who can hit a 900 but can’t get out of an NDA without hurting himself, responded, “I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I’ve been talking to Activision again — which is insanely exciting. We’re working on something. This is the first time I’ve ever said that publicly. I can’t give you any details (…) but I think it’s something that the fans are really going to enjoy.”

The most recent addition to the franchise was the 2020 remaster of the first two games in the Pro Skater franchise, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2The remaster was the last game from series developer Vicarious Visions before it was acquired by Blizzard Entertainment in 2021. According to Hawk and game designer Andy Gentile, the studio was at one point working on remastered content for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 And 4but that work was scrapped when Vicarious joined Blizzard.

Hawk’s teaser of new events surrounding the Pro Skater franchise for its 25th anniversary comes after a recent change to the series’ social media accounts. On Instagram And X (formerly known as Twitter) Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater profiles have been getting new logos in recent weeks, changing the branding from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 to more all-encompassing THPS iconography. The Instagram account has also begun pushing new ads for the 2020 remaster, based on my own doomscrolling on social media, which hints that something might be coming for that entry.

The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released for PlayStation on September 29, 1999, so a possible reveal could be imminent. The most recent original entry in the franchise was 2015’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5which was developed by Robomodo and was widely planned by players and critics. Robomodo has since closed.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. You may want to redownload it now if you already have it, just to be safe.
