Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk is enjoying the arrival of his very first grandchild.
On Saturday, his son Riley Hawk and wife Frances Bean Cobain surprised many people when they announced the birth of their first child, a boy they named Ronin.
The new mom dropped the news via Instagram on Saturday, writing, “9.17.2024 Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk. Welcome to the most beautiful son in the world. We love you more than anything.”
The daughter of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole leader Courtney Love posted three photos set to John Lennon’s song Beautiful Boy, a tribute to the birth of his son Sean in 1980.
Tony Hawk also delivered the happy news and showed his sense of humor by calling his firstborn grandchild, “My favorite grandson!”

Cobain’s post quickly received tens of thousands of likes.
Harper Grohl, the 15-year-old daughter of Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, was among those who left supportive comments.
The teen left a series of crying and black heart emojis under the post, which consisted of several black and white photos of Ronin.
Cobain then reposted the upload to her Instagram Stories, where she added the beautiful song Beautiful Boy by John Lennon, one of her father’s favorite artists.
The post teased a first look at their new bundle of joy and included a shot of the professional skateboarder cradling his son as he looked adoringly at the baby.
Another photo showed Cobain’s finger wrapped in her son’s little index finger and thumb.
Cobain and Hawk did not announce that they were expecting a child, which in turn caught fans completely off guard when the news dropped.
It comes weeks after Riley took to Instagram to wish his wife a happy birthday with a sweet post.
He uploaded a black and white photo of the couple smiling and holding hands, adding: “Congratulations to my queen!”

The couple started dating in 2021, and after about two years of dating, they made their union legal by tying the knot in a ceremony officiated by REM’s singer Michael Stripe in October 2023.
In what was likely another nod to the late Smells Like Teen Spirit rocker, as he was also a huge fan of REM, who have since amicably parted ways in 2011.
Tony Hawk, who is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential skateboarders of all time, shares son Riley with his first wife Cindy Dunbar.
He also has two sons: Spencer, 25, Keegan, 23, from his second marriage to Erin Lee.
The vertical skateboard pioneer also has a 16-year-old daughter Kadence and his third wife Lhotse Merriam, whom she divorced in 2011.
The skateboarding icon is currently married to Catherine Goodman, whom he married in 2015.
