Tony Armstrong encourages fans to vote for him to be the first Aboriginal to win a Gold Logie: ‘They would be a positive part of history’

Tony Armstrong has good reason to hope he wins the Gold Logie this year.

The ABC News Breakfast presenter has been nominated for the coveted award for the most popular personality on Australian television, and he realises that if he can win enough votes he will be the first Aboriginal person to win.

“Viewers should vote for me because if that campaign is successful, they would be a positive part of history. No Aboriginal has ever won this award,” the 34-year-old said. TV Tonight this week.

“I think it’s a little late for pats on the back, but it would be cool to be the first,” he added.

The television personality added that he feels “honored” by the prestigious award.

“It’s not something you plan on being nominated for a Golden Logie, but when it does happen, it’s a bit of an ordeal,” he said.

Tony previously said that he doesn’t like being nominated for the golden gong.

He told viewers he didn’t like being shown smiling in photos used to advertise voting.

Co-host Michael Rowland teased Armstrong after he shared a promotional photo of the handsome star frowning.

Armstrong replied, “Normally they say, ‘We want you to smile more.’ And I don’t like to smile too much in pictures, as you all know.”

“Fun fact,” Rowland Armstrong teased.

Rowland also shared a behind-the-scenes video showing Armstrong watching a segment promoting his Gold Logie nomination.

Other contenders include Robert Irwin, and his I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here co-host Julia Morris.

Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie and Andy Lee from Seven are also in the running for the prestigious award.

IIn addition to his nomination for the Gold Logie, Irwin, together with Morris, Emdur, Kruger and Armstrong, is also competing for the Bert Newton Award for most popular presenter.

In this category there is another strong candidate: Hamish Blake.

The 64th annual Logie Awards will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang and will take place in Sydney on August 18. This year’s event will be broadcast on Channel 7.
