Toni Kroos ‘nears Real Madrid contract extension until 2025’ as 34-year-old midfielder earns reward for stellar season… including reviving his Germany career!

Toni Kroos is reportedly in line for a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid.

His current contract expires this summer, but his employers are so impressed with his performances that they are willing to keep him until at least 2025.

Kroos, 34, has played in all but three of Madrid’s games this season and is a steady presence in midfield that younger players can learn from.

He announced a shock return to the German national team in February and this month made his first international appearances in almost three years, even serving as captain.

Madrid have discussed a new deal with him and he will agree, with the signing being just a formality Fabrizio Romano.

This comes as a big surprise, as on March 19 he left his future wide open for debate.

‘Many things are not clear about what will happen after the euro. I don’t even have a club contract for next season yet. “I need to clarify that first,” he said.

However, he did the same last year and only signed an extension until this summer.

In a Real Madrid setup that is producing some of football’s brightest young talents – Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Arda Guler – Kroos’ experience is incredibly valuable to Los Blancos.

Although he played a central midfielder role and often sat deeper than his colleagues, he scored seven assists.

In the summer he will complete 10 years at Santiago Bernabeu and will be hoping to add to his four Champions League and three LaLiga titles before his anniversary.

During his trophy-laden spell he made 455 appearances for the Spanish super club and in another season he could reach the magical 500 – a club that only 15 players belong to, including current star Luka Modric.

Nearly 1,000 days after retiring from international football, Kroos returned to the German starting line-up against France and then the Netherlands.

His consistency is a huge asset for both Madrid and Germany, both of whom offer him a chance at more trophies

He was an integral part of their 2014 World Cup victory but has insisted he is not a ‘savior’ figure for a side that has underperformed in recent major tournaments.

Germany exited the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in the group stages and only made it to the last 16 of Euro 2020.

That said, two assists and two wins in his return are certainly promising. He even wore the captain’s armband against the Netherlands.

A final chance at glory in his homeland – and indeed Madrid – would be a fitting chapter towards the end of an iconic career, in which Kroos has emerged as one of the best of his generation.
