Tommy Fury reveals the real reason why he split from Molly-Mae Hague

Tommy Fury has finally explained the reasons why he and fiancée Molly-Mae Haag split.

In an emotional interview with Men’s health Conveniently timed days before Molly-Maey’s long-awaited documentary was released, he became dependent on alcohol after a boxing injury and admitted his mental health was ‘in the pan’.

Amid rumors that their August 2024 split was a publicity stint, Tommy spoke candidly about his mental health battle and insisted he never cheated on Molly-Mae, calling rumors about other women complete nonsense.’

“The reason why Molly and I broke up was because I became addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner I wanted to be anymore,” he admitted.

‘It pains me to say it, [but] It’s true, I couldn’t. I liked a beer, liked to drink, and it is what it is. People go through different things in life and we all have our cross to bear. I have mine to bear.”

Tommy explained how his problems started when he underwent reconstructive surgery in January 2024 after breaking all the ligaments in his hand in 2019.

Tommy Fury has finally explained the reasons why he and fiancée Molly-Mae Haag split in an emotional interview with Men’s Health

In an emotional interview with Men’s Health, conveniently timed just days before the release of Molly-Maey’s highly anticipated documentary, he became dependent on alcohol.

He stated that his “mental health was in the pan” during his recovery from surgery, which came off the back of “the best year I’ve ever had” in 2023, during which both his career and his life with Molly flourished.

The couple, who came second on reality TV show Love Island season five in 2019, got engaged in 2023, months after welcoming their daughter Bambi.

Tommy explained how a huge part of his identity was taken from him when he could no longer train and said his diet and fitness were the first things he let go of before turning to alcohol.

‘I only lived for training and for my family, and all that was taken away from me. So what I did for fun is I started drinking quite a lot. I noticed that it made me feel better,” he said, adding, “I wanted the endorphins that I would get when I finished a good session, when I finished sparring, when I finished fighting.”

When he admitted that he went out most nights and drank to get ‘blackout drunk’, Tommy’s relationship soon began to suffer.

However, the boxer insisted he never cheated and maintained his close bond with his daughter Bambi during the dark period.

Over the past year, Tommy has been photographed enjoying rowdy evenings with his friends, including a weekend in Budapest where he was pictured with the former Miss Hungary.

He was also caught at an event at the Hungarian Opera House with another brunette woman during the same drunken trip. The trip is said to have contributed to their split.

“Cheating was never a thing,” Tommy insisted. ‘You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the booze, and the booze is not a good thing. You have to get a grip on it.’

“If you’re in the same situation as me, where you think it’s going to solve all your problems, it won’t. You wake up feeling worse and you want to drink more to feel happy again. That’s the cycle of it.’

“The reason why Molly and I broke up was because I became addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner I wanted to be,” he admitted.

Molly-Mae, who was filmed kissing her ex on New Year’s Eve, is now said to be thinking about what Tommy would have to do to make their relationship work.

The mother’s conditions would include a ban on partying and being more concerned with family life rather than focusing on his boxing matches.

Molly-Mae announced her shock split from Tommy, also 25, in August, five years after they met on ITV reality dating show Love Island.

But friends say Molly-Mae has ‘continued to love Tommy’ and is considering a romantic way forward with the professional athlete.

It’s claimed that Molly-Mae and Tommy’s reunion will be the focus of her new Prime TV show, Behind it All, which will also document their emotional breakup.

The first three episodes of the show will launch worldwide exclusively on Prime Video on January 17, with the final three episodes set to release in spring 2025.

Molly is in the public eye for the show this week, amid claims she and Tommy have been on a string of secret dates.
