Tommy Fury calls out Conor McGregor as he targets epic ring return following hand injury against KSI last year… but there is one thing standing in the way of the Irishman accepting

  • McGregor has boxed before, but one major factor could keep him from fighting Fury

Tommy Fury has challenged Conor McGregor to a boxing match, but there is a major barrier preventing the Irishman from accepting it.

Fury, 24, is targeting a return to the stands after injuring his hand in his controversial majority decision win over YouTuber KSI in October.

While he’s still taking a timeout, he’s thrown the gauntlet to McGregor early.

“I’m trying to get this injury out of the way, nice and recovered,” Fury told DAZN Boxing.

“I saw Jake Paul fight Mike Tyson, I mean why not me and McGregor next? I have a comeback fight and I would like to have him for my return, so McGregor, get in touch.”

Paul is indeed fighting Tyson. The YouTuber turned boxer will take on the former undisputed heavyweight champion, 58, on July 20 in Dallas, live on Netflix.

That’s been bombastically dubbed the ‘biggest fight of the 21st century’, but Fury will struggle to get his dream punch.

McGregor has a lucrative deal with the UFC and has a plan for this year that includes fights with Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz and even Manny Pacquiao in the boxing ring.

He was released from his UFC obligations due to his boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017, but that was a huge event.

He likely won’t be able to take on any challenges outside of the UFC until his deal is finalized.

Notorious signed a five-year UFC deal in 2018, but its expiration may have been delayed by a year as he was ineligible to compete for most of 2023 after dropping out of the USADA testing pool.

It is clear, as indicated in the Daily mirrorthat he has two fights left on his UFC contract.

If Fury were to manage to secure a match against him, it would be a brutal test of his credentials.

Fury has won all ten of his professional fights to date, but McGregor is a former featherweight and lightweight UFC champion and has been a champion in both weight classes simultaneously.

However, McGregor’s last two fights were against Dustin Poirier in 2021, both of which he lost.
