Tommy Fury, the brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, Love Island celebrity and professional boxer, has battled YouTube influencers Jake Paul and KSI in his last two outings.
Afterwards, however, Fury hinted that he was now “done with crossover” boxing.
Looking for credibility, British cruiserweight title winner Mikael Lawal has invited Fury to step into the ring with him to fight a real champion.
That’s the weight class Fury competes in and Lawal wasn’t offended by the prospect of boxing a relative novice.
“One hundred percent,” Lawal said cheerfully. “Let’s make the fight happen. I hope we can get that fight. Absolutely, we have to fight.
“As long as I can make some money and feed my family, it’s business. I will fight anyone if it makes financial sense.”
Lawal has a serious battle on his hands this weekend. On Saturday he will box Isaac Chamberlain for the British and Commonwealth titles at York Hall Air sports.
Promoter Ben Shalom has also suggested that Fury should focus on fighting Viddal Riley. London’s Riley trained KSI. However, he is a very skilled boxer and won the English cruiserweight championship in his last match.
“For me, he (Fury) should fight Viddal Riley,” Shalom said Air sports. The reason he should fight him now is because Viddal is only going to get better and better and better. We can already see that and he will reach world level.
“If Tommy Fury ever thinks it could be competitive, get him early, get him while he’s still early in his career.
“I know Viddal would love that fight. Realistically Viddal is a serious operator, most fighters won’t want to fight him.
“It’s a huge fight, and I would suggest that if Tommy Fury is looking at the fight, he should do it as soon as possible.”
Watch Mikael Lawal vs Isaac Chamberlain live on Saturday evening from 7.30 pm in the Sky Sports Arena.
