Tom Selleck looks downcast and scruffy as he’s seen for the first time after expressing ‘frustration’ over Blue Bloods cancelation

Gloomy and dejected Tom Selleck was spotted in public for the first time since doubling down on his apparent war with Blue Bloods producers.

The Hollywood veteran, 79, has been openly critical of CBS’ decision not to renew the hit police drama series, in which he played New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, after the network announced the show will end this fall.

He has since reportedly moved back to his home in California with his wife Jillie Mack, 66, after 14 years of traveling to and from the East Coast to film the show.

The actor was spotted leaving a friend’s house in the San Fernando Valley last week.

Exclusive photos from DailyMail.com showed Selleck looking red and heavier than usual, with his scruffy salt-and-pepper beard on full display.

He was dressed in a blue button-down shirt, a black T-shirt, shorts and sneakers, and was carrying a folder full of papers.

The outing comes as the television star struggles to come to terms with CBS’ decision to pull the plug on the long-running series.

Selleck has made no secret of his disappointment with the ending of Blue Bloods, and after show bosses announced filming would stop last year, he said he hoped they would ‘come to their senses’.

He again expressed his “frustration” over the show’s cancellation in an interview with TV Insider on Thursday.

‘I’m a little frustrated. “Through those last eight shows, I didn’t want to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods, but the fact that it’s still wildly successful,” Selleck said.

‘In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers we were number 9 out of 100), if you take out the three football shows we are at number 6!’

“My frustration is that the show has always been taken for granted because it was on from the beginning.”

Selleck continued, “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old man saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’

“I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to television, ‘This is a show you can program in the worst time slot you have, and it will guarantee you win Friday nights for the next fifteen years.’ years,” it would be almost impossible to believe.”

‘So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort this all out.’

Although filming has wrapped on the show, fans can still expect to see the actor at the end of the final season, with the final episodes airing on October 18.

Selleck, who was previously best known as Magnum PI and also had a role on Friends, won legions of fans with his turn as Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods, a fictional NYPD commissioner.

He has starred alongside Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes since September 2010, and said when the show was canceled that fans would surely react furiously to the decision.

“CBS will notice that many people are not ready to say goodbye to it yet,” he said at the time.

Blue Bloods centers on the Reagan family – with Frank as the patriarch and the police chief of the New York Police Department.

The popular series, which premiered in September 2010, had an impressive run on CBS with 14 seasons.

Blue Bloods became the second-longest running scripted show on CBS, behind NCIS (with 21 seasons).
