Hawaii-ey up boy! Tom Selleck revealed to have Yorkshire roots after a baffled distant relative from the pit village near Barnsley finds the mustachioed Magnum star in her family tree
Magnum PI star and the great-great-grandfather of American actor Tom Selleck was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, according to research.
The 78-year-old Detroit native rose to fame as a TV detective in the 1980s before appearing on Friends and more recently on the police show Blue Bloods.
Distant cousin Caroline Coffey, 55, discovered the mustachioed star on a branch of her family tree and declared it a “dead ringer” to their ancestors, who were born in 1856.
The retired youth counselor told The sun: ‘Tom’s great-great-grandfather Robert Jagger was born in Yorkshire in 1856 and one of his sons, Thomas, emigrated to America.
Speaking of the resemblance between the men she said, ‘When I saw it [the photo of her great great grandfather] along with other research I had done, I knew Tom was part of our family.

Before adding, “I always thought there was something about him.”
Barnsley is a market town in South Yorkshire, with other notable people from the area including cricketer Darren Gough and Vera actor Kenny Doughty.
It comes after Tom enjoyed a Magnum PI reunion with former co-star Larry Manetti when the latter recently filmed a guest appearance on Blue Bloods.
Tom, who played private investigator Thomas Magnum alongside 75-year-old Manetti’s bar owner Orville “Rick” Wright, looked delighted as they posed in a cast shot shared by co-star Donnie Wahlberg, 53,
Wahlberg wrote: “#MagnumMonday. It’s a mini Magnum PI reunion on the set of this week’s #BlueBloods, with guest stars Larry Manetti and Tom Selleck — together again.
“I wish the late greats Roger E Mosley and John Hillerman could be here too.

This is the first time the pair have reunited on screen since starring in the CBS drama, which aired from 1980-1988.
The series follows Thomas Sullivan Magnum IV, a private investigator who lives in the guest house of a beachfront estate called Robin’s Nest in Hawaii and chooses his own cases to investigate.
John Hillerman, who played Jonathan Higgins for Selleck’s free-running Detective Thomas Magnum, passed away in 2017 at the age of 84.
Roger Mosley who played Theodore ‘TC’ Calvin in the series,died at the age of 83 in August 2022.

The Los Angeles-born actor died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of injuries from a car accident in Lynwood, California.
His character Calvin was the owner of a helicopter company called Island Hoppers. He had previously worked with Selleck on the film Terminal Island, who recommended him for the role
Magnum PI was rebooted in 2018 with Jay Hernandez as Magnum and Zachary Knighton as Wright, Manetti had a cameo in 2019 as Nicky ‘The Kid’ DeMarco.
