Tom Selleck, 79, looks rough in new workout pictures – as bearded actor makes first public appearance since Blue Bloods was brutally axed

Actor Tom Selleck hit the streets of California to celebrate the end of his long-running TV police series Blue Bloods.

The 79-year-old bearded man wore an all-black outfit last week as he headed to the gym in Thousand Oaks, the first time he had been seen outside since the series wrapped its final episode in June.

Selleck and his wife Jillie reportedly returned to their California ranch after spending 14 years commuting to and from the East Coast to film the series. The series was abruptly canceled by CBS executives late last year.

As he got back into shape, Selleck wore high-waisted shorts, a black T-shirt and Brooks running shoes, along with his trademark full mustache and silver beard that he had been growing for months.

Selleck has made no secret of his disappointment with the ending of Blue Bloods. After the show’s executives announced last year that filming would stop, he said he hoped they would “come to their senses.”

Although filming for the series has now wrapped, fans can still expect to see the actor at the end of the 14th and final season in October.

And while Tom is glad that living back on the West Coast gives him more time to hit the gym, he said in January that he’s “learned to love” his busy schedule.

“Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what?” he said TV Insider“I want to work as long as they want me.”

Selleck, previously best known as Magnum PI and in Friends, won legions of fans with his role as Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods, a fictional NYPD commissioner.

Since September 2010, he has starred alongside Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes. When the show was cancelled, fans would certainly have been furious, the spokesperson said.

“CBS is going to find that a lot of people are not ready to say goodbye,” he said at the time.

Once filming wrapped, a source said Tom would be enjoying some time off at his 160-acre California ranch, which he shares with wife Jillie Mack, 66.

“He wants to relax on his ranch, walk around his property, spend time with his wife and family and travel a little bit,” a source said. Closer Magazine in January.

‘Tom and Jillie can just sit at home, cook, go for a long walk and be very content. He adores Jillie and trusts her to plan activities or travel plans.

“He’s looking forward to spending more free time with her.”

However, Tom revealed in May that the aftermath of Blue Bloods ending could cost him his final years on the ranch.

Despite a career that spanned decades in Hollywood — including a reported $200,000-per-episode deal for Blue Bloods — he told CBS Sunday Morning that he was at risk of not being able to pay his bills after the show was canceled.

“You know, hopefully I’ll keep working enough to keep the spot,” Selleck said, to which CBS correspondent Tracy Smith responded, “Seriously, is that a problem? If you stop working?”

Selleck said, “That’s always a problem—if I stop working, yes. Am I set for life? Yes, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

The source told Closer magazine that as Tom heads into retirement, he is more in love than ever with his wife and daughter Hannah, 35, an experienced horse rider.

The source said: ‘Tom is very close to Hannah and very proud of her career in competitive show jumping.

“He hopes Hannah will find love and have children, but he’s not the type of father to force that on her.”
