Collingwood premiership hero Tom Mitchell has claimed he was given special treatment by a hotel because they mistook him for Magpies teammate Scott Pendlebury.
Mitchell, who has been battling a nagging ankle injury this season, took to social media this week to describe his recent experience in an Adelaide hotel after Collingwood’s Gather Round final win against Hawthorn on Sunday.
“The room I got on this trip is probably one of the biggest and better I’ve had,” Mitchell began in a TikTok post.
“And I think I just found out why.”
Mitchell then produced a greeting card that had been left out for the room guest, along with a bottle of wine.

“Dear Scott, we are pleased to welcome you to the Peppers Waymouth Hotel,” read the letter.
‘If you need anything during your stay, please contact our friendly reception’
“Kind regards, The Peppers Team.”
Mitchell believes the excellent serve was intended for his teammate, even though the two don’t look alike.
“Cleary intended for Scott Pendlebury and not Tom Mitchell,” he says at the end of the post.
Collingwood coach Coach Craig McRae knows his side must up their game if they are to defend their AFL premiership this season after overcoming a huge Hawthorn battle in a thrilling five-point win to complete the Gather Round.
The Magpies led by 38 points at half-time but were almost overwhelmed by the winless Hawks in their 11.11 (77) to 11.6 (72) win at Adelaide Oval.
A second straight win gave McRae’s side a 2–3 record heading into an early-season bye after their campaign started with three straight defeats.

“We don’t stand still,” said the third-year coach.
“We know we have to get better… but we showed some signs today that we probably haven’t shown in the last few weeks.
‘We looked very sharp with the ball and some parts of our play looked very strong in the first half, which is why we are here with a win.
“It was just enough this week, but we know this is a four-quarter game and a tough competition. We have to improve.’
