Tom King’s Archie one-shot will finally ‘solve’ Betty or Veronica dilemma
Archie has put off making his tough choices for too long. It’s finally time for Riverdale’s favorite son to choose between Betty and Veronica, and luckily he has a special guest writer to make sure everything goes smoothly. Legendary comics writer Tom King will join artist Dan Parent for a full-length one-shot called Archie: The decisionin which Archie finally makes his choice.
As you’d expect for such a milestone in Riverdale history, The decision will feature many of Archie Comics’ favorite characters, from Josie and the Pussycats to Sabrina the Teenage Witch, all commenting on the decision and sharing their thoughts.
King’s reputation as the writer of the biggest, brightest superhero comics of the past decade tends to overshadow the consistent humor in his books. The writer of The vision, Omega men, Mr. Miracle, BatmanAnd Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow seems excited to fully embrace the Archie-style comedy.
“As a huge Archie fan, this is just a pure joy project for me,” King told Polygon via email. “I wanted to do something crazy and cool and hysterical and beautiful and brash and maybe a little bit profound as a tribute to my Archie heroes from the Golden and Silver Ages – people like Dan DeCarlo, Harry Lucey, Bob Bolling, Bob Montana and Samm Schwartz. And who better to do that with than modern Archie maestro Dan Parent, who inherited the legacy of these giants and continued them brilliantly. (The decision) is an epic, riotous tale featuring dozens of Archie characters in which Dan and I grapple with the biggest dilemma in nearly 85 years of comic book history: Betty or Veronica!? I’m not sure we can solve it, but like all of Riverdale, we’re going to have a lot of fun with it.”
Archie: The decision hits shelves on August 28 and has no less than 32 pages for all ages. Archie Comics has shared a sneak peek of the issue with Polygon, including a variant cover by Stephen Byrne and a page from the book itself, which you can check out below:
