Tom Holland says the entertainment industry is ‘not for him’: ‘I really do not like Hollywood’

Tom Holland revealed in a candid new interview that he doesn’t like Hollywood.

The 27-year-old Spider-Man protagonist admitted the entertainment industry is “not for him” and “scared” him in Tuesday’s episode of Jay Shetty’s Podcast.

“Look, I’m a really huge fan of filmmaking, but I really don’t like Hollywood, it’s not for me,” the British-born star – who also shared that he was “addicted” to alcohol before moving elsewhere got sober on the podcast – revealed.

“The company really scares me. I understand being part of that company, and I enjoy my kind of interactions with it,” he continued.

“But having said that, I’m always looking for ways to kind of remove myself from it, to just live as normal a life as possible.”

“Do this today [podcast] is a very rare thing for me to do,” Tom continued, adding that he felt Shetty’s podcast was a “safe space” for him to open up.

The actor went on to say that some of his friends have “lost themselves” in the business.

“I definitely think it’s been an ongoing thought, which is don’t lose yourself,” he explained.

“I’ve seen so many people come before me and lose themselves, and I’ve had friends I grew up with who aren’t friends of mine anymore, because they’ve lost themselves in this business.”

“I just really want to focus on what makes me happy, which is my family, my friends. It’s my carpentry, my golf, the charity my mother runs.’

“Like, that’s the stuff that really makes me happy, and that’s the stuff I’m supposed to be protecting.”

Holland has been acting since he was nine years old and rose to world fame playing Spider-Man in the Avengers and Spider-Man franchise.

In June, he announced he would be taking a break from Hollywood. He says the hiatus was already planned, but some have speculated it came after his recent Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room was widely panned by critics.

Elsewhere in the interview, he revealed why he keeps his relationship with girlfriend Zendaya so private.

The actor gave a rare insight into his love life when he said his bond with the star, 26, is the “thing he holds most sacred.”

Tom and Zendaya have kept their romance low-key since they were first linked in 2017 after starring opposite each other in the Spider-Man franchise.

He said, “My relationship is what I hold most sacred. I’m not talking about it. I do my best to keep it as private as possible.’

“We both feel this is the healthiest way to continue as a couple, so I try to stay as far away from Hollywood as possible.”

It comes just after Tom gushed about his romance with Zendaya last week, sharing how he’s “lucky” to have her in his life.

He sweetly described their relationship as “worth its weight in gold” as he talked about how they can share their life and work experiences with each other.

During the extended interview, Holland also talked about his journey to sobriety and how he realized he was addicted to alcohol.

He publicly revealed in May that he’s been sober for a year and four months, adding that it was one of the hardest things he’s ever done.

Holland said he realized he had a problem when he tried not to drink for a month: “It was all I could think about. I woke up and thought about it, I looked at the clock, “When is it 12 o’clock?” And it really scared me.’

“I was like, ‘Wow, maybe I have a bit of an alcohol problem,’ so I just decided to punish myself and say I’m doing February too, I’m taking two months off,” Holland said. .

Holland added that the two months were up and he was “still struggling a lot, like I couldn’t be social, I felt like I couldn’t go to the bar and have a lime soda, I couldn’t go out for dinner, I was having a really, really hard time and I stared really worried I had an alcohol problem.”

After the two months had passed, he decided to go three more months until his birthday, June 1.

“I said to myself, if I can go without alcohol for six months, then I can prove to myself that I don’t have a problem,” Holland admitted, adding, “by the time I got to June 1, I was the happiest that I had ever been in my life.’

He added that after all this time without alcohol, he slept better, solved problems better, “things that would go wrong on set that would normally put me off, I could tolerate well.”
