Tom Hiddleston reunited with his co-star Hugh Laurie on Wednesday to film the second season of The Night Manager in Richmond-upon-Thames.

The 43-year-old Thor star was in high spirits as he resumed work on the suspenseful BBC show alongside the 65-year-old House actor.

Tom looked very casual as he flashed a brief smile at his co-star Hugh during filming, after fans thrilled at the news that The Night Manager would be returning.

Hugh’s appearance on set will come as a shock to many fans after his character, villain Richard Roper, died during the series’ first season.

The notorious arms dealer was last seen at the end of the first series of the BBC One thriller, where he was forcibly taken away, seemingly in the hope of meeting his end.

A source commented on his unexpected return last month, telling The Sun: ‘Everyone assumed he was killed off in season one, so this will be a pleasant surprise.

“It will only increase the excitement for the long-awaited sequel, which has already begun filming and is expected to premiere next year.”

It comes just a day after Tom was first spotted on set, with his character Jonathan Pine sprinting down London’s famous South Bank.

It was a long night for the Loki actor, who filmed the tense outdoor scene at 4am.

The first series was inspired by the characters from John le Carré’s best-selling novel and won multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards and Golden Globes. The series was watched by more than ten million viewers, making it one of the most watched TV series of 2016.

Tom himself won a Golden Globe for his role as ex-soldier Jonathan Pine and said after the shock announcement: ‘The first season of The Night Manager was one of the most creative and satisfying projects I have ever worked on.

‘The depth, scope and complexity of Jonathan Pine was and remains an exciting prospect.

‘I’m so excited to be reunited with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to be working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.’

In addition to Tom, the series also starred Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki.

Tom did nothing to calm the rumors about the upcoming series when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this year.

Asked by the American talk show host about Hugh Laurie’s possible return to the show, the actor said: ‘I don’t know. He’s a huge influence – he knows the character better than anyone.’

Kimmel responded, “That certainly seems like a lie, because you just said you made up the story. How could the story have been made up without knowing if Hugh Laurie was in the story?”

An X user shared the clip, writing, “Kimmel catches Tom Hiddleston in a flat out lie about whether he knows if Hugh Laurie will be in season 2/3 of The Night Manager.”

Hugh will join Tom as executive producer on the series, which is being produced by The Ink Factory. It is still unclear whether he will reprise his role as Richard Onslow Roper.

The new seasons will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and worldwide on Prime Video, in a deal negotiated by FIFTH SEASON, which will distribute the series worldwide.
