It’s because customers at two US movie theaters got more than they bargained for when they settled in to watch the summer blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One on Tuesday.

Fans of the action franchise flocked to Atlanta’s Regal Atlantic Station and Miami’s AMC Sunset Place, where they were treated to a guest appearance by none other than Mr. Ethan Hunt himself – also known as Hollywood star Tom.

The actor flashed his famous grin as he welcomed guests before introducing the movie, the seventh installment in a seemingly endless franchise in which Cruise, 61, once again performs all of his daring stunts himself.

Dressed in a casual short-sleeved polo shirt — pink for Miami, blue for Atlanta — he posed for selfies, shook hands and even punched star-struck fans at the events, presented by Paramount Pictures and Skydance.

The hard-working actor traveled from one theater to another with Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie to promote the film, which officially premieres on July 12.

Here he is! It’s because customers at two US movie theaters got more than they bargained for when they settled in to watch the summer blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One on Tuesday.

Cruise gets off the bike and freefalls for several seconds before pulling a parachute cord in a thrilling action scene from the new movie.

And in a new interview, he described exactly what it took to pull off that death-defying move, with Tom explaining that there was a “no-go point” on the ramp during filming.

Cruise revealed that after reaching a certain point on the ramp, he couldn’t “slow down” and had to keep going even if other factors in the stunt weren’t correct – with the star admitting he was “a little off course” at one point by side wind.

Speaking to Sian Welby on Capital Breakfast, he said: ‘There’s a lot going on, a lot of preparation to figure that out. The amount of knowledge that goes into something like this, it’s very exciting.

“I like learning, you know, I like pushing cinema that way, but even as I go, the helicopter flying overhead, I had to be in sync with that helicopter, because if it’s in the wrong position standing, he’s going to blow me off the ramp.

“If I can do these things, but if we don’t get the shot, we don’t get it, and you can also see in the electronic press kit that I jump out of a helicopter just before I do because I have to test the wind currents in the bowl .’

He added: “They change very quickly so as soon as I do that jump you can see when I opened up I kind of drifted off because I had a crosswind and as I, my shoulder was up a little bit and the parachute opened and the second time it opened it pulled me to the side of the mountain so I had to quickly, once you pull you must be ready quickly to adjust the direction of the chute.”

The movie star went on to say that he not only considers safety when jumping, but also his acting skills and how it performs on screen.

While he also explained that timing, position and speed are so important, he explains that once he’s past a certain point on the slope, there’s no turning back – even if everything else isn’t perfect.

Coming soon: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will officially be released in theaters on July 12

He said, “And there’s also a performance that I’m thinking about, you have to feel and see that you know, show the audience that’s acting, and I have to know the speed of the bicycle, the helicopter, if he in the wrong position.

“I have a go and a no-go point, where there’s a point on that slope where I know I’m committed and I can slow down, but I can’t get off the throttle at that point. If I’m going to stop, I really have to, there’s a go, no-go point, it’s like you’re in at this point.

“And even if the helicopter, the drones are in the wrong position, once I get past that point, it doesn’t matter what I promise, and I can’t slow down. I need to get off the edge of that slope as soon as possible.”
