Tom Brady’s replacement ‘has been identified’ by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ‘as they target Kyle Trask as Week 1 starter’ and heir apparent to recently retired iconic quarterback
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly targeted third-year quarterback Kyle Trask as their Week 1 starter and heir apparent, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
“From my conversations with the organization, they feel like Kyle Trask is likely to be the guy under center,” Darlington said during a ‘NFL Live’ segment. “I’m pretty sure they’re headed in that direction.”
Targeting Trask as the Week 1 starter would make him Tom Brady’s heir apparent, following Brady’s recent retirement.
The Buccaneers drafted Trask in the second round in 2021 and he has attempted just nine passes and taken 10 snaps since then while backing up Brady.
Kyle Trask is reportedly Tom Brady’s heir apparent in Tampa, according to Jeff Darlington.
Brady announced his retirement shortly after the team was eliminated from the playoffs.
During his time at the University of Florida, he threw for 7,386 yards and 69 touchdowns over the course of three years.
Darlington also noted that he believes Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht believes the former Florida Gator is currently the best quarterback in the NFC South.
‘Believe [Licht] he also believes that Kyle Trask has what it takes to be a winner in this league,’ Darlington said.
Brady announced his retirement in early February, saying in a video on social media: ‘Good morning guys. I’ll get to the point right away. I retire, forever.
“I know the process was a big problem last time, so when I woke up this morning I thought I’d hit record and let them know first.”
It won’t be long. You just get a super emotional retirement essay and I used mine last year so… really thank you all so much for supporting me.
‘My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever, there are too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I would not change anything. I love you all.’
Brady’s final season ended when he and the Buccaneers were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys 31-14 in the NFL Wild Card round of the playoffs.
After the game, many felt that his body language and choice of words during a press conference were signs of an unofficial goodbye to Tampa. But it was not so clear if it was a farewell to the game itself.
