Even in his post-playing days, future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Tom Brady can’t help but be at least a little competitive—something Jimmy Garoppolo has seen many times before.
Speaking to FOX News Digital, Garoppolo, Brady’s former teammate on the New England Patriots, said he’s happy to be back with the greatest quarterback of all time.
Brady is now part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, the team Garoppolo now plays for. Garoppolo says his boss hasn’t missed a second of his playing days.
“His competitive spirit is still showing through even as he’s just getting ready for the Dallas preseason game,” said Garoppolo.
“He was with us in the locker room. You can feel it: that competitive spirit kind of came up. He got a little fiery.’

Garoppolo also spoke about the recent trade the Niners, his ex-team, made in relocating Trey Lance
It’s been several years since Brady and ‘Jimmy G’ were teammates. Garoppolo was traded to San Francisco midway through the 2017 season and played five and a half seasons with the 49ers.
Garoppolo says that now that Brady is in the building, their relationship has returned to where it left off.
“We talked about a lot of things,” said Garoppolo, who was about to start his tenth year in the league. “On the field, off the field, different kinds of things. He has a lot to do right now.
“Really happy for him and how things are going.”
Meanwhile, the ex-49er also took the time to comment on San Francisco’s decision to trade Trey Lance out. Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft — whom the Niners traded for — was moved to the Dallas Cowboys last Saturday.
When asked by Sports Illustrated, Garoppolo called it a “weird situation.” There’s been a lot of weird situations out there in San Francisco. Leave it at that.’
He was asked how San Francisco handled the QB situation, but Garoppolo directed that question back to the interviewer, who called it messy. Garoppolo replied, “Messy? Yes, that’s a nice way to put it.’
