Tom Brady, what next? Premieres, podcasts, a $17m bachelor pad… and a $375m Fox deal

The past two weeks will have given Tom Brady a taste of what to expect away from the football field. After announcing his retirement this time, he insists, forever, life will be very different for the 45-year-old.

A year ago, when he retired, he would have envisioned married life with his wife, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. But Brady’s blowback drove an irreparable wedge between the two and their divorce was finalized three months ago, during football season.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that, retirement or not, the end of the football season gives Brady his first real opportunity for downtime to process the past few months. Bundchen, meanwhile, has relaunched his modeling career on the Florida beaches over the past two weeks, but now the spotlight is back on Brady after his bombshell announcement.

The fortnight following the Bucs’ 31-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Brady’s last game, gives an indication of what life will look like now; red carpet appearances, podcast hosting and parenthood: he was recently seen watching his daughter Vivian take a riding lesson and visited prospective schools for her children.

Brady arrived in Hollywood Tuesday night for the premiere of 80 for Brady, a story about four friends who travel across the United States to watch the quarterback play in the 2017 Super Bowl.

The announcement finally came this week: Tom Brady is retiring, this time for good.

No one knew then that Brady’s retirement announcement would come hours later.

Perhaps not even he did: Reports surfaced Wednesday night that he had filmed his announcement video at least a day before posting it, suggesting he may have stopped at when to go public.

Or maybe he just didn’t want to upstage his movie premiere. Speaking in advance on his Let’s Go! podcast, Brady said of the film: ‘It’s really exciting. I’m actually flying to LA to be at the premiere and I just want to be there to support everyone who’s really worked hard over the last two years.

“Watching it from start to finish and from conception to writing the script, editing it, getting some of these incredible women who are the actresses and directors, and being on set and having my teammates there and then to see it.” it just came out amazing.

“So I hope everyone really enjoys it and that it’s a really fun, feel-good movie. It’s about friendship. There are a lot of twists and turns that take place, so I think everyone will really enjoy it.’

For Brady, it’s hard to imagine his movie adventures stopping at the red carpet. Now that she’s called it a day, offers from Netflix and Amazon, for example, to make an in-depth documentary on her career are sure to come.

Michael Jordan made an estimated $3 million for The Last Dance, according to Forbes. You can’t imagine Brady seeing any reason to settle for less.

Brady also spends time on his Lets Go! podcast, which is a partnership with Sirius. He has the power to draw the big names on board — recent invitees like Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant are proof of that.

Brady is also good on the show. He feels authentic and doesn’t shy away from the key issues that surround him. Two weeks ago he spoke cheekily about his uncertainty about his future as a player.

Jim Gray, Brady’s guest, asked Brady if he had a timeline for when he would announce what’s next.

‘Jim, if I’d known what I was going to do, I would have done it by now. Is he okay?’ Brady responded emphatically. I am taking it one day at a time.

Earlier this month, Brady's ex-wife Bundchen relaunched her modeling career, but the spotlight is now back on Brady after his announcement this week.

Stunned by the direct response from the seven-time Super Bowl winner, Gray responded, “I feel like the question antagonizes you,” before laughing nervously.

“You’re itching…” Brady said before Gray quipped, “It’s just the question everyone wants to hear!”

“You’re rough,” Brady said again before regaining his cool. ‘I appreciate you asking. Thank you.’

He is also building a mansion in Miami that is said to be worth $17 million. He is located on Indian Creek Island, ‘the most exclusive municipality in the world’ with only 34 properties available on 300 acres, all of which have waterfront views of Biscayne Bay.

He and Bundchen had made plans to move into the high-security enclave, dubbed the Billionaire Bunker, after buying the $17 million property in late 2020. They tore down a pre-existing 5,772-square-foot home on the lot and are building an eco-friendly mansion of latest generation in place.

Less than half a square mile in size, the island has been a magnet for billionaires, celebrities and power couples who have sought it out for its privacy and security.

Once construction is complete, Brady will be a neighbor to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, hotel mogul Jeffrey Soffer and billionaire investor Carl Icahn.

Brady launched a clothing brand a year ago, Forever 12, and on Wednesday he quickly launched merchandise related to Brady’s retirement. The ‘Finale’ hoodie went up by $100.

He also has TB12, which is a nutrition and sportswear range that he’s helped design, but for those who don’t turn to Brady for protein powder and training gear, you’ll find it in Subway commercials.

It’s one of the most surprising partnerships given that Brady is so strict about what he eats. Her diet avoids non-organic, grass-fed dairy products, refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and trans and saturated fats.

That being said, Subway and Brady did a good job of recognizing the elephant in the room. One commercial shows Brady sniffing at freshly baked bread and saying “so good you can almost taste it” before the narrator responds “but you don’t eat bread”.

His Subway fee never came to light, but Brady also does promotional work for Hertz, Under Armor and Fanatics.

But his biggest source of income now that he is retired, and the one that will maintain his profile and occupy most of his time, will continue to come from football. Brady has a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox, ready to retire and work as an analyst.

It could even start soon — this year’s Super Bowl is on February 12 — but it’s still unknown if Brady will work on the game so soon after he retires.

Either way, while Brady has left the field, he’s clearly not going anywhere out of the public eye.

Following her announcement on Wednesday, Forbes revealed that they estimate her worth at around $533 million over her 23-year career; $333 million from his contracts and the rest of his work off the field.

You have every reason to expect that number to grow.
