Tom Brady opened up to Stephen A. Smith about how he hopes to work in sports broadcasting, but offered no suggestion about whether he’ll make the switch next season.
Smith was Brady’s guest on the most recent episode of his ‘Let’s Go!’ podcast and the pair discussed life as a media personality. Brady has a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX Sports for when he retires, and that could be this year.
Brady, 45, is taking time to consider his future in the game after the Dallas Cowboys knocked the Bucs out of the playoffs two weeks ago.
Tom Brady and Stephen A. Smith have discussed what life is like as a sports analyst.
Smith told Brady that he will have a huge impact on people’s lives when he moves into the studio.
“What I want to tell you is this,” Smith said. He plays soccer another year, two years, whatever. You retire, it’s your business, we’ll celebrate you no matter what.
‘When you walk in that booth, Tom Brady, I’m here to tell you that you’re going to teach people a lot. And I’m not talking about football. When you’re in that booth on a weekly basis, it won’t be just to throw footballs anymore.
‘You’re going to be talking and when you’re talking trust me when I tell you that everyone is going to listen. Make no mistake about it. You’ll be amazed at the kind of profound impact you’re going to have.
“Get ready for it, look forward to it, because it’s going to happen.”
Brady clearly absorbed Smith’s words and talked about how he anticipates life as an analyst will impact him.
“I’m sure that’s one of the best things you feel, too,” Brady told Smith. “When you hear that, you know, when you walk down the streets, wherever you are, I’m sure people really appreciate that you’re a part of what their tomorrows are. You are also educating them.
‘There’s so much to learn, there’s so much to teach, you know, it’s constantly evolving. Trust me as much as I think I’m willing to teach people, I’m really looking to learn.
Brady has a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX that he can accept when he retires from the game.
As it is, Brady is considering his future after the Bucs were knocked out of the playoffs.
‘I’m really looking to learn from everyone I can talk to. I have the opportunity to be in a job in the future where I can travel and learn from all the other people I’ve looked up to and looked up to, different organizations and different people.
‘So it’s exciting for me too. I feel like the opportunity to do that is something I look forward to whenever that time comes around.’
Last week, Brady said on his podcast that he still doesn’t know if he’ll still play in 2023.
