Tom Brady’s Buccaneers jersey from his final NFL game will be auctioned for up to $2.5 million at the first Las Vegas Grand Prix next month.

Brady, widely considered the greatest quarterback in football history, brought the curtain down on his storied career in February following the Bucs Wild Card round loss to the Cowboys in last season’s NFL playoffs.

A year after walking back his initial retirement announcement, the seven-time Super Bowl champion insisted he would step away from the sport for good this time, meaning his football career ended on a low note against Dallas.

Just under a year after that harrowing conclusion, the Bucs jersey Brady wore in his last-ever NFL game will be flogged during the official auction of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which takes place on November 18.

The shirt, presented by auctioneers RM Sotheby’s and the Wynn Hotel, will be offered with an estimated value of $1.5 million to a staggering $2.5 million – meaning it will become the most expensive football shirt ever sold at auction.

The current record is held by Joe Montana’s San Francisco 49ers jersey from Super Bowl XIX and Super Bowl XXIII, which sold for $1.2 million earlier this year.

Brady’s will be sold alongside Lewis Hamilton’s 2013 Mercedes-Benz F1 W04, which won his first ever Formula 1 championship victory for the team. Hamilton’s car has an estimated value of between $10 and $15 million.

On Brady’s jersey, Brahm Wachter, head of Sotheby’s Streetwear & Modern Collectables, said: “There are only a few athletes who are universally accepted as the best in their sport: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Muhammed Ali, Wayne Gretzky, Babe Ruth. For the National Football League, that’s Tom Brady.

“Worn during the very last game of his regular career, this historic jersey is a tangible reminder of Brady’s unparalleled legacy and as such may be the most coveted NFL jersey to ever come to auction.

“We are thrilled to partner with RM Sotheby’s in presenting a sweater of unparalleled significance on the auction stage in Las Vegas. Featuring two star lots making their auction debut and previously belonging to arguably two of the greatest athletes of all time, the event is sure to be one of the most anticipated and best known of the year in auction history.”

Brady spent more than two decades in the NFL before retiring from football after January’s loss to the Cowboys.

Since then, he has been forced to adapt to life as a fan from the sidelines and the comfort of his own home, which he has found difficult to get used to.

In conversation with Jim Gray in the latest episode of his podcast ‘Let’s Go!’ on Apple, he said of watching the New England Patriots as a fan: “I just want to pull my hair out and say ‘what the fuck is going on’!”

“I have no influence whatsoever on any match,” he said of this year’s league action. Even when I was playing, I didn’t have that perspective.

‘This is a completely new life that I am now living as well… 32 years of playing and now I am on the outside looking in.’
