It wasn’t the easiest transition from the field to the television booth for history’s greatest footballer. For Tom Brady, the flubs and stumbles continued in his first-ever playoff game.
Brady, who will be the color commentator for Super Bowl LIX alongside play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt, was burned over the coals of the internet for a mistake he made during the NFC Wild Card game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
As time expired in the first half of the game – and the Eagles led 10-0 – Brady decided to praise a play call by Philadelphia.
Unfortunately for him, he had a bit of a slip of the tongue and said the name of the City of Brotherly Love baseball team, instead of the football team.
‘[You have] three timeouts, so you’ve made a few plays. But I like this call from the Phillies…excuse me, Philly,” Brady said on air.
Brady also switched the name of Packers running back Josh Jacobs and called him Brandon Jacobs instead.

Brandon Jacobs is a retired NFL halfback best known for winning two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, beating Brady both times.
Fans on social media have been eviscerating Brady, saying he and Burkhardt should be replaced by the “No. 2′ Fox broadcast team of Joe Davis and Greg Olsen.
The ‘No. 2’ team of Davis/Olsen was named the best NFL broadcast team of 2024 This is evident from a poll among more than 2,400 fans, conducted by the sports media site Awful Announcing.. Burkhardt/Brady placed 14th out of 25 broadcast teams.
“Maybe Brady isn’t cut out for broadcasting,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Another user said: ‘Soccer player – goat. Announcer – terrible!’
“They’re giving this guy the gross domestic product of Lithuania to do this,” another user joked.
Many commentators called for Olsen to be returned to Fox’s No. 1 team. Brady took Olsen’s spot when he started broadcasting this year.
‘He’s absolutely horrible on the mic! Get this hole out of her and bring me back Greg Olsen!,” read one user’s comment.

Another user said: ‘I can’t wait for Greg Olsen to be on the A-team again next year!’
One user posted, “We want Greg Olsen back,” while another said, “Get rid of him. @gregolsen88 (100 percent) better.’
Since its rough debut in Week 1 of the NFL season, Burkhardt and Brady’s stand has been the most talked about commentary duo in sports.
Brady has been targeted for his occasional awkward moments and mistakes. Fans often point to the massive ten-year, $375 million contract Fox gave him before they even heard him do color commentary.
Earlier this season, after Brady’s minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders was approved, the NFL approved a set of rules the 47-year-old would have to follow to keep things fair for other teams.
That includes prohibiting Brady from accessing other teams’ facilities, watching practices and attending production meetings virtually or in person. He is also not allowed to criticize match officials or other clubs.
Any of these rules would hinder his preparedness as a broadcaster, or limit what speech he could or could not use on air.
