Tom Brady gives his verdict on much-criticized Fox NFL debut

Tom Brady has admitted there is still room for improvement from his debut as a match analyst for Fox Sports.

Brady took on that role for the first time last weekend when he, along with Kevin Burkhardt, covered the Cowboys’ win over the Browns.

The former quarterback’s performance was heavily criticized by some fans, and he acknowledged in a new youtube video that his performance was not perfect.

“It’s definitely fun, there’s definitely some cleaning up to do,” he said. “So it’s all a learning process.”

Brady was lambasted by some fans early in his Fox Sports debut for making a bizarre statement: “It’s hard to get 10 yards, but really hard to get 20.”

Another fan added: “Maybe someone should have listened to Tom Brady before spending $300 million on him,” referring to the 10-year, $375 million deal Fox gave him.

Some even compared Brady negatively to fellow TV rookie Jason Kelce, who began his role as host on ESPN’s Monday Night Football show before the game.

One fan claimed the former Eagles center was “1,000 times better than Tom Brady on TV.”

But Joe Buck, a veteran commentator currently covering the game on Monday Night Football, came to Brady’s defense.

“I think it’s absolutely impossible to grade somebody and say somebody’s going to be good, not good after one game,” Buck said on The Michael Kay Show, per Sports Illustrated.

“This is a tough job. We’re all doing our part. You’ve got to be able to settle in, know what you need to know. … It’s just plain unfair that everyone wants to have their say after five seconds. That’s not how it works.”

Brady himself seems confident that he can continue to grow in his new job, as he said he “felt like I did what I was supposed to do. It’s going to get better.”

Brady’s next assignment is when the Saints visit the Cowboys this weekend.
