Toddler twins drown in swimming pool ‘after grandmother with Alzheimer’s left door open’

Twin siblings, just 18 months old, both drowned in a pool at their family’s home after their great-grandmother with Alzheimer’s left a door open.

Locklyn and Loreli Callazzo were found Thursday at the bottom of the murky water feature at their parents’ $565,000 home in Oklahoma City.

Their mother Jenny Callazzo, 37, made the gruesome discovery and was seen by Oklahoma City firefighters administering CPR when they arrived on the scene.

Jenny, a stay-at-home mom who runs a bow boutique, lives on the property with her grandmother, six children, and husband Sonny, 42, a marketing executive.

A relative claims that Jenny’s grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, left the back door open, allowing the twins access to the pool.

They added, “Please pray for the twins’ siblings and for all of our family.”

The toddlers were found in the pool of the home in the Cobblestone neighborhood around 10:45 a.m. and were confirmed dead at 1 p.m.

Aerial footage of the house showed a puddle filled with dark green water, apparently due to thick algae.

Police have launched an investigation into the deaths, but added that it does not appear to be criminal in nature.

Just days before the tragic incident, she posted photos of the twins outside the property with the caption “just want to play outside.”

a GoFundMe was created to help the family with expenses after the toddlers’ deaths and has so far raised $5,000 of a $7,500 goal.

It read, “These beautiful babies were taken from us too soon. Anything you can give to help with expenses would be greatly appreciated. We appreciate everyone’s love and support.”

The Oklahoma City Fire Department said they don’t know exactly how long the toddlers were in the pool.

Neighbors described witnessing a distraught Jenny get into the back of an ambulance as paramedics fought to save the toddlers.

First responders continued CPR on the children as they transported them to Baptist Hospital, but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Greg Merrell, OKCFD Battalion Chief, said, “It was a man and a woman… They were siblings.”

Locals also confirmed that the family lived in the property for about a year before the tragic incident.

Neighbor Mike Bernard told News 4: “It’s certainly disturbing. And, you know, my prayers go out to that family because little children are precious.

“They took out two small children and put them in separate ambulances. And they were both resuscitating small children.

“I saw the mother who was distraught, who got into an ambulance.”

A child safety expert told Fox 25 that the toddlers’ deaths were “heartbreaking” and urged parents to remind themselves of the measures they can take to protect their families.

Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator at OU Health Laura Gamino said, “I want to send my sincere condolences to the family.

From Safe Kids Oklahoma City Metro and Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, [we’re] very, very sorry to hear this. It’s just tragic.

‘Anything can happen in the blink of an eye…Kids are drawn to water and toddlers don’t have the skills to help themselves out of the water…Drowning is very sudden and it’s very quiet.

‘Sometimes people have the idea that a child will struggle in the water and start screaming, but they can’t because their mouth is full of water. So it’s very quiet, and that’s one of the scariest things.’

She advised anyone who owns a swimming pool to put a four-foot fence around it with a gate that young children cannot open.
