The father of a boy with congenital heart disease has demanded answers after the toddler was served raw chicken nuggets at McDonald’s.

The bereaved father – who declined to be named – claimed the 22-month-old boy was tucked into nuggets on Wednesday after his mother bought him a Happy Meal at Kelston McDonald’s in Auckland, New Zealand.

He and the family had gone to McDonald’s to treat the toddler as a reward for his bravery during a recent stint in hospital for his congenital heart condition.

He said McDonald’s store staff didn’t take his complaint about the nuggets seriously when he reported it before the fast food giant later offered a $50 voucher and an $8 refund.

It comes after another father found raw meat in the McNuggets he bought for his six-year-old son in South Auckland earlier this month and stopped his son from eating them just in time.

In the latest incident, the toddler had already eaten a nugget before his shocked parents realized the flesh had turned pink.

The frantic parents rushed their toddler to the bathroom and forced him to vomit the nugget again.

The father claimed that the store staff did not take the matter seriously when he told them what had happened.

A McDonald’s group operations manager contacted him after the father contacted headquarters to file a complaint.

‘But despite [its] internal investigation has been completed, he has not commented on exactly what happened and whether the chicken was cooked for even a second,” the father told the NZ announces.

He said McDonald’s offered him an $8 refund and a $50 coupon, which he described as a “joke.”

“You don’t go to a restaurant just to get raw chicken and come back next week. We don’t want money. We just want some responsibility,” he said.

He added that he was concerned about customers encountering the uncooked meat in the restaurant and how dangerous it could be, especially for those with underlying health conditions.

A McDonald’s spokesman said the restaurant’s management has been in contact with the father to explain the investigation into the incident and to check on his son.

He added that they have explained the formal process the restaurant must follow several times and have addressed the father’s requests regarding legal action and compensation.

He said management would provide an update on the findings and actions of the investigation as soon as possible – adding that the organization takes food safety complaints very seriously.

Meanwhile, the father said he was told the fast food chain’s kitchen staff would receive more training and additional signage would be installed in the food preparation area.
