A toddler, just weeks away from his first birthday, has died after being run over by a reversing car while playing in a driveway north of Brisbane.

Emergency services found the baby boy in critical condition when they arrived at the Deception Bay home around 10:15 a.m. Monday.

The child was said to have suffered serious head injuries in the collision.

The baby’s grandmother, Carolyn Glenn, said her son and the baby’s mother traveled to Redcliffe Hospital with paramedics.

“I’m just numb,” Ms. Glenn told the Courier Mail.

“You see this happening to other families. I can’t believe it happened to us.”

The baby’s aunt said the little boy was about to celebrate his first birthday.

Stuffed animals have been placed in the driveway of the George Street residence.

Deception Bay, in the Moreton Bay region of Queensland, is located 30 km north of Brisbane.
