Authorities are looking for the parents of a two-year-old boy who was left in a suitcase in the city of Puebla in central Mexico.

The disturbing discovery occurred Tuesday morning when a woman walking through the La Loma neighborhood heard the screams of a child.

The woman approached the suitcase and found the toddler under the water.

While changing clothes, the officer noticed that he was showing signs that he had recently been beaten.

“He had visible injuries on his face,” officer Betsabé Zallas told Mega Noticias.

“It was also my job to protect the minor, keep him warm so he could (be taken) to a police cruiser to determine the minor’s diagnosis.”

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found him to be in good health and then rushed him to North General Hospital, where doctors diagnosed and treated him for hypothermia, malnutrition and numbness in his body, ABC Noticias reported.

The child was discharged later in the day and remains in the care of the National Integrated Family Development System, which is caring for him while police search for his family.

Gaby Bonilla, who oversees the social assistance agency, revealed on her X account that she met the boy on Wednesday.

“I am happy to report that his health is good and he will recover very quickly,” she said.

At least three other children have been abandoned by their parents in the state of Puebla this year.

On March 27, neighbors discovered a 30-week-old girl dumped in a ditch and nearly covered in dirt at a property in the Bosques de Manzana neighborhood of Puebla.

A motorist traveling on the Azumbilla-Tlacotepec highway in the city of Vicente Guerrero found a little boy abandoned on the side of a road on March 20.
