Today’s Karl Stefanovic toasted for ‘sweaty’ and ‘terrible’ anchorage during Malaysia Airlines crisis

Karl Stefanovic was roasted by fans on Tuesday for his “appalling” coverage of the recent crisis involving Malaysia Airlines flight MH122.

The Today show host, 49, appeared live at Sydney Airport to speak about the incident where a flight flipped after an unruly passenger began uttering ‘threats’.

Stefanovic unnerved viewers as he began his field interview with two aviation experts and stumbled over his words several times.

Viewers were relentless in their criticism of Karl’s impromptu reporting style and took issue with the MediaSpy forums to roast him.

“Karl doesn’t seem to add much to being at the airport this morning, IMO. He seems to be stumbling over his words and sweating quite a bit,” one viewer snapped.

“He’s doing a terrible job anchoring this morning. I understand if he doesn’t have an autocue, but at least he should be able to string together a sentence without an autocue,” added another.

“I think he’s so scary this morning!” a third person entered.

Fortunately, Karl seemed to gain his composure as the morning wore on and gave viewers a better understanding of the terrifying ordeal.

However, some questioned why he needed to be on location at all, with one viewer commenting, “It’s still confusing why he needs to be at the airport. He might as well have done this in the studio and been more effective.”

Daily Mail Australia turned to Today for comment.

It comes after a Malaysia Airlines plane was forced to return to Sydney on Monday afternoon after a passenger went on a frenzied rant about Allah.

Dramatic video showed the man calling himself a ‘slave of Allah’ before challenging other passengers to repeat that they were also ‘slaves of Allah’.

He was arrested at around 7pm on Monday at Sydney Airport and spent the night in custody.

The arrest came after police controversially took three hours to board the plane.

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb confirmed on Tuesday that charges had been filed against the passenger allegedly at the center of the tirade.

Muhammad Ali Arif, 55, who is a citizen of both Pakistan and Australia, will appear in local Downing Center court later today on two charges of making a false statement and disobeying directions.
