4.00 Bath – Mimikyu takes on nine rivals in Beckford Stakes
One of the highlights of Bath’s season, the Listed British Stallions Stallions EBF Beckford Stakes (4.00) has attracted a horse of real star quality in John and Thady Gosden Mimikyu.
The four-year-old filly won the Group Two Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster just over a year ago and was last seen finishing a brave fifth in the Group One Prix de Royallieu in Paris.
If she is to find form under Rab Havlin, she should be very difficult to beat, but she faces nine useful rivals.
The biggest challenge could come from her stablemate An evening, who narrowly failed to follow Mimikyu’s path when she finished second to Sumo Sam in the Park Hill last time out. That made it three consecutive attempts at second and Kieran O’Neill has the task of breaking that trend.
There’s also an Irish robber in the form of Gavin Cromwell Vera Vertowho has collected some nice trophies at Listowel and Newmarket in recent weeks and is looking for a hat-trick under Franny Norton.
by Ralph Beckett Mistress of illusion is potentially a threat after scoring at Doncaster last month and remains relatively unexposed.
4.35 Bath – Tajanis takes on seven for Haggas
Recent Yarmouth scorer Tajanis is expected to take another leap forward for William Haggas and Tom Marquand in the Follow Vickers.Bet on Facebook Handicap (4.35).
It seemed that he had enjoyed softer ground last time and that he would encounter similarly favorable conditions here.
Top weight Spartan army is an intriguing recording by Alan King, who was last seen tackling the obstacles in Taunton in March. Before that he was a useful winner on flat ground for Joseph O’Brien, so there are certainly fears.
by Ralph Beckett Campaign trail was unsuccessful in a hat-trick bid at Newmarket last time out, but falls back in his ranks here under Rossa Ryan.
Mark Loughnane and son Billy combine with useful stayer Percy Joneswhile Jonjo O’Neill’s jumps are represented by Merveillo.
11.50 Deauville – Ferland’s Aventure seeks group glory
The Group Three Prix Des Reservoirs stakes (11.50) was won in 2020 by subsequent Group 1 star Rougir and there is every chance we could see another star of the future in this eight-runner field.
Potentially the most exciting of them all is Christophe Ferland’s filly Sea The Stars Adventure who really impressed when winning by three and a half lengths on debut at Chantilly last month.
Stéphane Wattels Tulip Chope won a listed match at Deauville on August 17 and could pose the biggest threat while Joseph O’Brien’s Dollerina looks best in the British and Irish challenge, which also includes the Karl Burke-trained competitors Making dreams.
