Today: Kyle Sandilands grills Allison Langdon on A Current Affair rumours

Today host Allison Langdon awkwardly dodged questions about her rumored move to A Current Affair while interviewing Kyle Sandilands live on air Monday.

The 43-year-old, who returned to the show that morning after taking more than a week off, shifted uncomfortably in her seat while refusing to confirm or deny the speculation — despite the shockwave that repeatedly pushed for an answer.

His interest in Langdon’s future was no accident as Sandilands, 51, was on Today to discuss that his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson is stepping down from their KIIS FM radio show for health reasons.

“Are you doing the A Current Affair or not?” he asked.

Stunned by the question, Langdon joked in response, “Well, I’m going to do the Today show, I’m going to do A Current Affair, I’m going to coach the Wallabies, and I think Dan Andrews might offer me a ministry.” .’

“She could be the Prime Minister!” added her co-anchor Karl Stefanovic.

But Sandilands didn’t back down and kept pushing for a good answer.

‘Let’s stop speculating. Are you doing a Current Affair? Or did Jackie leave to do A Current Affair? I don’t know. Just tell us!’ he said.

Langdon kept tight-lipped about her potential move to prime-time, hinting that she would never be able to “leave” Stefanovic alone on the Today show.

“I think this is Jackie’s gig,” she joked, “because I’m sitting next to this face—and who could leave this face?”

“Well, his face has been left before, let’s face it,” Sandilands joked, before asking again, “Are you doing it or not?” to which Langdon replied, “No.”

“So you’re not doing it?” he asked again.

‘Far away!’ exclaimed Langdon, prompting Stefanovic to say, “With all these questions, he should be doing A Current Affair!”

Hours earlier, Langdon had returned to Today unannounced, after a week-long absence that sparked rumors of her being promoted to A Current Affair.

“Look who’s back!” Stefanovic noted at the beginning of the broadcast at 5:30 a.m., along with weatherman Tim Davies and fill-in newsreader Lara Vella.

Langdon then explained her absence, revealing that she was “filming” for 60 minutes.

“The filming was good, it went well,” she said. “And the kids, they’re all good. I’ve got them back in line… It’s great to be back.’

Industry sources say Langdon is the favorite to replace Tracy Grimshaw as A Current Affair host, but it’s unclear who will take her spot on Today.

Nine executives tried out several co-anchors with Stefanovic last week, including former US correspondent Amelia Adams and 60 Minutes reporter Sarah Abo.

Langdon, who first joined Today in early 2020, would like to move to ACA because the hours are easier as a working mom.

While Nine has not made any announcement about ACA’s new host, it is believed that the network is only considering candidates from within its own ranks.

This excludes The Project presenter Carrie Bickmore, who is leaving Channel 10 at the end of this month and was previously linked with the high-profile role.

Nine’s political reporter Chris O’Keefe has also been ruled out as a candidate after it was announced Sunday that he would be moving to 2GB.

O’Keefe will take over the 3 p.m. drive show from January 9, a role previously played by Jim Wilson.

If Langdon gets the ACA job, she could add her name to an illustrious list of broadcast titans like Ray Martin, Mike Munro and Jana Wendt.

Coincidentally, her husband Mike Willesee Jr is the son of the late former ACA great Mike Willesee who hosted the program’s first three seasons and then another five.
