Breakfast TV shakes up as rising Channel Nine star Amelia Adams joins the Today show – as rumors circulate that Allison Langdon will replace Tracy Grimshaw in A Current Affair

Today viewers woke up to a new lineup on Thursday with Amelia Adams making her debut as a co-host alongside Karl Stefanovic.

Adams, 39, has just returned to Sydney after four years as Nine’s Senior International Correspondent in Europe and North America.

She filled in for Allison Langdon, who took the morning off.

Adams, who will be working as a full-time reporter at 60 Minutes, received a radiant introduction from Stefanovic at the start of the broadcast.

He described the Nine veteran as “one of Australia’s greatest correspondents of all time”.

But things took an uneasy turn when he said co-hosting the Today show was a step back from the dizzying heights of foreign reporting.

‘From the top of reporting greatness to working with Alex [Cullen, newsreader] and I. It’s a long way down,’ he said.

Adams, whose live coverage from the US Capitol during the January 6 uprising saw her win two Kennedy Awards and a Walkley nomination, laughed the joke away.

Her appearance on Today coincides with rumors that Langdon will soon be named as Tracy Grimshaw’s replacement as host of A Current Affair.

TV Blackbox reports that “no final decision has been made” regarding ACA in 2023, but Langdon’s name “continues to be whispered” by network insiders.

If Langdon makes the move to prime time, 60 Minutes reporter Sarah Abo would be a “hot contender” to compete on the Today show.

But according to the industry website, Adams has now become a late favorite.

Despite Nine announcing in August that she would be joining 60 Minutes, TV Blackbox says that “the network is now reconsidering whether Adams would be better placed on Today.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Nine for comment.
