The Crown star Tobias Menzies joins Brad Pitt-led cast of upcoming Formula 1 racing film for Apple Original Films

Crown star Tobias Menzies has joined the Brad Pitt-led cast of Apple Original Films’ upcoming Formula 1 racing movie.

The news about the arrival of the 49-year-old actor was revealed on Friday by Variety but information about his character was not disclosed.

The film stars Pitt – whose ex-wife “dazzled him into selling her share” of their French vineyard – as a retired racing driver returning to professional racing.

The untitled film will be shot at several Grand Prix events this summer.

It is being directed by Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, who also serves as producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.

The development of the feature was first revealed to the public in January last year.

It was then announced that Pitt would get into the cockpit of a race car while working on the project.

However, Variety reported that the artist would not actually compete in a Grand Prix event and would likely be driving a modified vehicle.

Kosinksi and Bruckheimer previously took part in a panel around the project that took place at the F1 Accelerate Summit in Miami, where they spoke about various aspects of the production.

Panel moderator Will Buxton revealed that the feature’s team would use “the smallest movable 6k camera ever to take the viewer into the cockpit” of each racing vehicle.

It was also announced that Hamilton would serve as an advisor on the film’s “storyline and script to ensure this is the most accurate racing movie ever.”

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali took part in a Q&A for investors last April and expressed his views via Sports illustrated that the project would serve as a model for future race films.

“It will be the first movie where they can be seen at the race event. It will be quite invasive in terms of production, but it will be another way to show that F1 never stops,” he said.

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei, who was also present during the call, stated that the position would likely raise Formula 1’s public profile.

“You have to keep it fresh, change the game. The audience is not that big. This movie, kind of like Vegas, is going to be a whole other level,” he said.

Maffei went on to say that the technology used by the project’s creative team for the film’s visuals was “amazing”.

The release date of the currently untitled feature has not yet been revealed.
