Tissot PRX Watch – A Stylish Timepiece with A Nostalgic Feel

Tissot is a watch brand that evokes a sense of nostalgia with its vintage-inspired timepieces. Their watches celebrate the past by combining classic design elements with modern technology. Each Tissot PRX watch is a tribute to the iconic timepieces of the 1970s but with a contemporary twist. With their lustrous lines, bold colours, and distinct shapes, these watches embody a sense of adventure and style that is both timeless and of the moment.

Whether you’re a seasoned collector or simply looking for a watch that channels the spirit of the past, the PRX watch collection is a sure delight.

History of PRX Watch Collection

The 70s brought along many challenges in the world of watchmaking. At the onset of the quartz crisis, most conventional watchmakers and brands witnessed a steep decline in demand for automatic watches. Instead, the market offered newer, lower-maintenance quartz alternatives that were also more precise. As a result, the watch manufacturers either had to adapt or risk their business.

Tissot came to the market in 1853 with a long-standing history of cradling innovation at its finest. The brand makers completely understood the power-shifting dynamic of the market and cashed in the opportunity with a new line of options.

What’s happening now?

The past few years have been years of the resurgence of the late 60s and early 70s, specifically for watch designs. The new line of Tissot PRX is crafted with inspiration from the 70s. Tissot has played an honourable homage to design aesthetics and technological advancements, which took place more than half a century ago.

Tissot PRX – Yay or Nay?

To be blunt, we want to give you the gist of the matter right away – the Tissot PRX watch collection is truly something special. The forerunner model, PRX 40 205, ruled the market in 1978. The piece came with the era’s integrated sports stainless steel watch formula.

Do you know what PRX stands for? PRX is “Power, Robust, and X”; here, X is the Roman numeral, denoting the 10 atm of water resistance. Tissot still uses the name for its current timepieces.

The current watch market shows no doubt about integrated sports watches’ popularity and fashion value. However, while other brands seek unique ways to craft their take on sports watches, and some are doing a relatively good job – Tissot already had a model to bring back to life from the seventies.

What is the best part of buying a Tissot PRX?

It comes at an affordable price. The current quartz PRX watch came out in 2020 and was closely succeeded by the automatic Powermatic 80. Enthusiasts fell head-over-heels for PRX timepieces. Trust us, the marketing photos and the videos do justice to the PRX timepieces. The re-introduction of the series rekindled 1970s emotions, sold heritage as a value, and again complimented the current design standards of modern customers.

Why Should You Buy Tissot PRX?

Honestly, why is it so good anyway? Many brands offer top-of-the-line sports watches; however, the Tissot PRX watch collection tells a resonating story. Let’s discuss its:

Bracelet

Tissot is offering a complete package with the PRX, but the watch’s bracelet is the true show-stealer. The design of the bracelet integrates rhythmically with the watch case. In addition, it also has a practical taper from the watch case down to the butterfly clasp.

So, it isn’t of the same quality as some other bracelets in the market – we give you that. However, considering the price range, it blows all its competitors away. The bracelet hugs your wrist perfectly and is exceptionally supple. The good thing about this bracelet is that it is thin and quickly gets covered with your cuff.

PRX Watch Dial

The aesthetics of the dial are royal Oaky, which is either good or bad, depending on your preference. Powermatic 80 is different from its Quartz better half owing to adding a tapisserie dial. In addition, what makes it unique is the addition of texture. With the 40mm size, the piece comes off as a perfect size. However, the piece is a tad large considering the thin bezel and flat case.

Now along with the prime structure of the dial, the thinner hour markers, and minimal text, the dial breaks the size factor down beautifully. Consequently, the dial feels more compact, making the timepiece purposeful and well-built.

Watch Case

The barrel-shaped case of PRX is perfectly made, offering a similarly positive impression. The case also comes with exciting shapes and lines; what do we mean by this? The edges of the case are angular and somewhat sharp. When you look at the watch, you will notice the level of depth coupled with complexity. This is despite the watch giving a flat look at first glance.

The brand has done a marvellous job of utilising multiple finishes on the varying lines of the case. Keeping in line with the watch bracelet, the case also showcases a fusion of polish and brush finishes. What we love the most is the combination of the polished bezel and the bevelled edges, which are additionally coupled with a flat brushed case look. The trio makes the watch luxurious and exquisite.

Is there room for Improvement?

It is difficult to pinpoint areas where the PRX watch can be improved. However, we will take this moment to reiterate that for a watch under £600, the PRX is already pretty close to being perfect.

The points shared below are small and are personal to our experiences only. It’s just us being a bit critical. So, the points below are only our components of a wish list.

Case Size

The first of our two wishes is to see a 36 to 38-mm case size. Yes, we are being picky, but this size resonates with people with a specific wrist size. There is a 35mm version in the market circa 2022, so there are hopes of getting an automatic version in 35mm also. This shall widen the market for people who did not buy the 40mm version, considering it too large.

Band Choices

Our second and final wish is more strap options with future PRX watch collections. The reigning PRX comes with a quick-release feature mechanism, which has been a part of the model since 2020. Tissot also released some leather strap options, which is a good start. However, a clearly communicated way of buying these online needs to be communicated. This is an ample opportunity for Tissot, as it will be easy for them to offer a few strap options on the fly, which can be purchased separately.

Final Thoughts

If you haven’t still understood the trend in the post, let’s make it more transparent – we love the PRX watch collection and believe it can be a pleasantly rewarding purchase. The photos show that the watch offers a good style, but the well-constructed build of the piece will take you by surprise. Additionally, Tissot PRX has taken the cake for a daily wear watch.
