Tina Fey reveals if she’s ‘open to’ a Mean Girls sequel… 20 years after the original movie debuted
Tina Fey isn’t closing the door on Mean Girls 2.
The comedian opened up about whether there could ever be a sequel starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert.
“Oh,” Tina exclaimed as she was talking Good morning Great Britain. ‘Don’t know. I would love to see those four women in the film again. I don’t know, I feel like if you took those characters where they are now, it’s just the Real Housewives franchise.”
However, the 54-year-old believes that the growth of their character could change the concept of a second film.
Tina added, “Hopefully by the end of the movie they’ve actually gotten better and grown. So hopefully they wouldn’t be mean anymore in their adult lives? Don’t know. I’m open to it.’

But after writing the script in 2004, the Date Night actress is now leaving it in the hands of others.
“If another writer has a pitch for it, he can take it from Paramount,” Tina continued. ‘I don’t think I have it in me. As much as I would love to reunite those ladies.”
The Saturday Night Live alum may not be far away.
A source said People in April that Lindsay and Rachel are also open to a return to the Illinois suburbs.
The insider revealed that the Freaky Friday star “wants to do another one and has a good relationship with her former cast members.”
“They are her friends and have been,” the source added. “Another film would be great for her and for the audiences who loved the original.”
They shared that Rachel is also game, saying the Titanic actress “would probably make a sequel to Mean Girls if everything presented to her made sense.”
Rachel skipped the Walmart ad last fall that showed Lindsay, Amanda, Lacey, Daniel Franzese, and Rajiv Surendra shopping for the holidays.
Despite her absence, the insider said that “she doesn’t regret not doing a Walmart commercial, which is a different thing.”
“She’s super busy,” they said, “but loves her former cast members and would love to talk about a sequel if it becomes a reality.”
Rumors of a Mean Girls reunion have been circulating for years, with Lindsay and Amanda reuniting in 2022 to discuss the prospects of a second film.

“I would kill to just get to play our own roles in Mean Girls on Broadway for just one week,” the Dropout star told Lindsay during a chat for Interview magazine before asking, “A Mean Girls 2 is never going to happen, is it?”
“I don’t know,” Lindsay admitted. “I heard something about it being a movie musical and I was like, ‘Oh no.’ We can’t do that. It has to be the same tone.”
“Yes,” Amanda agreed, “it would just be very different.”
“Anyway, Tina’s busy,” she continued. ‘She’ll get around to it. Listen, we’re all part of each other’s world, whether we like it or not, and it’s really fun to connect as adults.”
And while a lot has changed in the past twenty years, the cast members are still bonded.
“Everyone’s still the same,” Lindsay said. ‘It’s nice to have certain memories that we can’t share with anyone else.
The duo also reflected on their time together in the early aughts.
“I think people still see us as teenagers,” Lindsay admittedto which Veronica Mars’s vet replied, “Like Karen and Cady.”
Amanda continued, “That was my first movie. You were in the middle of it and you created a very nice atmosphere. I didn’t know how good it was going to be.’
But Lindsay always knew they were creating something special.

“I had a feeling, just because you don’t always have that much fun making movies, and I knew it would carry over,” the Parent Trap alum recalled. “But I never realized what it would be, still.”
Despite great success, there was a point when Amanda didn’t want recognition for her role in the teen comedy.
‘Ten years ago I used to think, “Yes, yes, I was Karen in Mean Girls, damn it.” Now I’m thinking, “I was Karen in Mean Girls!” she admitted. ‘I’m very proud of it.’
Turning to her costar, Amanda added, “You had a lot to do with where it went and what it was. I don’t know if you know that. I’m sure you felt the pressure, but it didn’t seem like you did. You worked very young and you were very good, but you were still a child.’
In addition to looking up to Lindsay, the Seven Veils star shared some memories she holds close to her heart all this time later.
“I’ll never forget those moments,” Amanda recalled. “We killed Toronto. That Sutton Place was just a real villain at the time. But that bar was great. We were way too young and had way too much fun, and the movie ended up being more than anyone could have imagined. We’ve had such crazy lives.’
