‘For me, Henderson is the best captain Liverpool have had in the Premier League era. I think he was a better captain than Steven Gerrard because Henderson won the Premier League and the Champions League.

‘Obviously Stevie was brilliant and with him they also won the Champions League.

“From a captain’s perspective, Henderson gives you more than what you see on the pitch and Stevie may have done that too, but Jordan is every manager’s dream.

‘He will keep his team aligned and push them in the right direction in terms of how to play for Liverpool and what the manager’s demands are.

Henderson has been a crucial part of Liverpool’s squad since joining the club from Sunderland for £20m in 2011.

In his 12 years on Merseyside, Henderson has won seven major trophies, including the Premier League and the Champions League.

Gerrard, on the other hand, won eight major trophies but failed to win the Premier League title during his 17-year stay at Anfield.
