Fulham captain and USMNT centre-back Tim Ream will not be called up for the Gold Cup and Nations League after breaking his arm earlier this season, according to Pro Soccer Wire.
Ream broke his arm during a game against Manchester City at the end of April and underwent surgery days later to repair it.
While Fulham believe Ream will be back in time for pre-season action in July – and Ream hoped to play for the US in some capacity this summer – those games may come too soon.
Ream was a vital part of the United States’ run to the knockout stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, starting all four matches. But he says the remote shot of making the selection for the summer is not happening.
“Unfortunately, I play absolutely no role in the US,” Ream said in an interview. “There was an outside chance that I would have made it to the Gold Cup. Nations League is too early.

Ream says he has “strict orders” for six weeks of no-contact training or physical activity
Ream was a crucial part of the US World Cup team – starting all four of the country’s games
“I am under strict orders of six weeks of non-contact training or physical activity. So six weeks come in, I believe, two days before the Nations League semi-finals.
‘And then I only have two days of contact training and that is not really conducive to performing at a high level with the national team.
So I’m clearly excluded [Nations League] medically and with the Gold Cup being so soon after, we made the decision to let the arm heal even more.
“Because when I leave it and come back for preseason, I’m between nine and 10 weeks of healing. And that’s a lot better than saying “OK, let’s take a risk after six weeks.”
The USMNT will play Mexico in the Nations League semi-finals on June 15 with a final between the winner of that game and the winner of Canada vs. Mexico three days later. Panama.
Just six days after the finals, the USA will begin Gold Cup action to defend their title. Group stage matches will take place in Chicago, St. Louis and Charlotte.
If they advance from Group A consisting of USA, Jamaica, Nicaragua and a qualifier to be determined, they will advance to the Knockout Stage.
The quarterfinals for Group A will be played in Cincinnati, the semifinals will be held in San Diego or Las Vegas and the final will be held in Los Angeles.
