Tim Minchin shocked audiences at his Sydney show on Friday night after making a tragic personal announcement on stage.

The British-born Australian comedian, 48, revealed his mother had passed away as he shared several stories and performed a variety of songs he had written.

During one of his stories, Tim revealed that his mother Ros was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2020.

He received a standing ovation at the end of the show before making the devastating announcement.

β€œMy mother passed away yesterday,” Tim told the audience.

He said he decided to go ahead with the show despite the family tragedy, ahead of an emotional performance at White Wine in the Sun.

He then ended the show by asking the audience to help him sing the final song of the night, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Many onlookers praised Tim for sharing such a candid confession.

‘Tonight I see Tim Minchin for the fifth time. Absolutely incredible show hands down his best! Very emotional end to the evening,” someone wrote on X.
