Tim Miller, co-founder of Blur Studio and director of Death Pole (2016), took the stage during Gamescom Opening Night Live to debut the first trailer for Secret Levela 15-episode anthology of video game adaptations coming to Prime Video on December 10.
Miller also managed to inject quite a bit of personality and emotion into the otherwise dull event as he prepared to Secret Levelwhich he will executive produce, Miller’s eyes filled with tears and his voice broke. “We to fuck “I love video games,” he said before diving into details about the show, which will feature stories inspired by games like Treaty, Dungeons & Dragons, Pac-man, SifuAnd The Outer Worldsamong others. Like Blur Studio’s popular Netflix anthology, Love, Death, + Robotseach episode stands alone.
The announcement was refreshing in more ways than one, and not just because the show looks more promising than its predecessors. Border areas movie that came out earlier this month. The animation resembles classic game cinematics, the trailer was well edited, and it gives fans who really don’t want to see their favorite thing go away Border areas route.
There was also a man who wasn’t all that different from any other man we see on stage at events like Gamescom, but this time he was crying. He stopped talking multiple times to collect himself, and honestly, who wouldn’t? Miller said his team has been working on Secret Level three years, so the emotion is understandable, if not commendable — but we rarely see figures like him get emotional on stages like Geoff Keighley’s. His deference to the work of his team is appropriate and welcome, and it only makes me more excited to see Secret Level when it premieres.
Perhaps Miller will compare the emotions to the high-pressure nature of speaking in front of a crowd of thousands when he gets a chance to reflect — Polygon was unable to reach him for comment after his speech — but as someone who follows every minute of these kinds of events, I found Miller’s emotion profound and hopefully indicative of the care with which Secret Level was made.
The series, created by Blur Studio and Amazon MGM Studios, will premiere on Prime Video on December 10.
