Tim Anderson: White Sox star ‘was SLAPPED by Yasmani Grandal in bust-up with teammate’ less than a month before suspension for Guardians brawl
Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was reportedly punched in a furious confrontation with teammate Yasmani Grandal less than a month before his suspension for brawling with the Cleveland Guardians.
Anderson, 30, was handed temporary suspension for his involvement in last weekend’s mid-game brawl on Monday. It all started when he took on Cleveland’s third baseman Jose Ramirez after the Guardians shortstop to second base.
Now, according to Shane Riordanan executive producer for the Parkins & Spiegel show on WSCR – branded as 670 The Score FM – in Chicago, Anderson was also involved in a violent confrontation with Grandal – his own teammate – earlier this summer.
Grandal allegedly punched the two-time All-Star during a heated argument in the clubhouse before Chicago’s game with the Cardinals on July 9, in which both players had to be kept separate.
But before that, when Grandal found out he was not in the team’s lineup for the game against St. Louis, he planned to leave before the game, Riordan reported. Anderson took offense to his teammate’s action plan and confronted Grandal.

“Tim Anderson says, well f*** you, f*** that if he wants to get out of here now, I’ll play for his run and get them there myself,” Riordan said.
Grandal finally appeared as a pinch hitter in the White Sox’s game against the Cardinals, striking out his lone play of the game. Towards the end, he went 0-for-5.
The White Sox are fourth in the AL Central with a 45-68 record, above the Kansas City Royals. They traded Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly, Kendall Graveman, Kenyan Middleton, Reynaldo Lopez and Jake Burger.
Middleton, who joined the Yankees, told ESPN earlier this week that Chicago’s clubhouse culture has “no rules.”

Lynn, who is now with the Dodgers, endorsed his former teammate’s comments on Monday.
“I was there much longer than (Middleton) was. He’s not wrong,” he said.
Grandal is currently in the final season of his four-year, $73 million deal with the White Sox, with Anderson in a similar position.
Chicago will play the Yankees at home on Tuesday night.
