Tim Allen gives exciting Toy Story 5 update as he returns to role as Buzz Lightyear

Tim Allen is ready to go ‘to infinity and beyond’ as Buzz Lightyear for Toy Story 5.

The 71-year-old actor, who co-starred with Tom Hanks as part of a fearless duo that led a group of classic toys in four previous adventures, opened up about the project in an interview with Collider.

“I just did the first five-hour session for Buzz, probably a week ago,” Allen told the publication. “It’s really strange to get back into it.”

The actor remained silent on the plot of the highly anticipated animated adventure, but the outlet reported that he would be voicing multiples of Buzz Lightyear for the project.

“It’s a very, very clever story,” he said of the script.

The original 1995 Toy Story was nominated for three Oscars and earned more than $394.4 million worldwide.

Toy Story 2 grossed $497.3 million, Toy Story 3 broke the billion dollar mark and Toy Story 4 raked in around $1.07 billion worldwide.

But the Santa Clause veteran said, “I don’t really think it’s about the money,” when it comes to motivating another project.

“I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it.”

Allen explained that the story was the real motivator.

‘If they hadn’t come up with a brilliant script they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks].’ he said, ‘It’s really clever.’

As for getting back into character after more than five years, the actor admitted, “It was a real struggle to get, and then maybe two hours later I was doing Buzz.”

As far as fans seeing the new adventure in theaters, Allen said, “I think we’re a year into it. I’ve reached the third act.’

‘We do the third act. And then we go back and clean it. And then I’ll do it about five more times, leading up to the expected release in 2026.

There have been many tender moments of friendship between Buzz and Hanks’ character Woody, but Allen said he was especially touched by a scene in Toy Story 4 where Buzz and Woody were on the verge of breaking up.

“When I said, ‘To infinity,’ and Tom said, ‘And beyond,’ it was so emotional for the two of us. We are really good friends, and I loved that,” the Emmy nominee said.

All four Toy Story films are available for streaming on Disney+.
