A TikTok account that exclusively records young women on a night out has attracted criticism online, with calls for the account to be banned.
The user, who has maintained an anonymous profile and goes by the name @walkingaroundthenew, has mainly filmed videos in Manchester, but also in London, Buenos Aires and Moscow.
With millions of views, the creator has filmed women in party clothes traveling from club to club with their friends, partying, sitting alone, eating and texting – without their consent.
Disgraced viewers have called for the 'creepy' account to be banned, with viewers claiming the videos are 'misogynistic' and 'predatory'.
One woman, Amy Adams, who claimed to have been included in the clips twice, went to see the film social media platform to publicly condemn the “disgusting” record of “objectifying and sexualizing” women and “creating a community of misogynistic men.”
A TikTok account that records women on nights out without their consent and posts them online is facing criticism
Although many viewers have expressed concerns about the account since it started posting the clips, this does not appear to have deterred the person behind the videos, who continues to post regularly.
The videos, which are often accompanied by the hashtag #beautiful, often attract comments from people who have unpleasant things to say about the women featured – including that they are “asking for it.”
On TikTok, Amy said, “Okay, I have to talk about this account because it's so creepy… and this is the second video I'm in.”
“I can confirm that all these girls are being recorded without their consent.”
She explained: 'It's basically this guy who records girls on a night out in Manchester and then uploads them to TikTok for all his followers to see, and these videos also get loads of views.
'But I think the whole premise of the story is so disgusting because he describes it as nightlife in Manchester, when in reality it's just a man recording young girls on a night out.'
“You could argue that recording in public is legal… that doesn't change the fact that it's still a man recording random women without their consent.”
Amy continued, “When you actually go to the videos and then look through the comments, this is what I find most disgusting. There are a lot of men in the comments who say things like 'with what they wear, they look like a bunch of whores.'

“Basically the objectification and sexualization of women in these videos and what this does to create a community of misogynistic men who basically have the ideology that 'a woman will be harassed and it's not her fault because of what she's wearing.'
“While in reality it is never anyone's fault because of what they are wearing and why they are being harassed, it is the person doing the harassment and it is the people making these comments.”
She concluded: 'I think the account needs to be held accountable, along with all these people saying nasty things about these women in the video, because I don't want to be recorded on a night out.'
Social media users have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, and TikTok to share their thoughts on the videos.

A second added: 'How have I just seen a TikTok of 'Manchester nightlife' where only young women are filmed going about their business on a night out? How is this completely normalized and not seen as predatory at all? Bizarre behavior.'
A third wrote: 'Nightlife' but never seems to include men.'
Another added: “I agree it's not okay to film someone without their consent. It is rooted in misogyny and the comments on the videos are disgusting.”
A fourth agreed, saying: 'I'm so glad someone is talking about this. I'm very sorry'.
A fifth said: 'My boyfriend and I had no idea we were in one of his videos, not once but twice!'
Another said: 'This is mean, everyone should report it.'
