Tiger Woods shares positive injury update as he reveals ‘the pain is completely gone’ in his ankle following surgery following Masters withdrawal

Tiger Woods said his ankle, which was surgically fused in April, is pain-free, but it is the rest of his leg that is causing him problems.
He also gave no indication when he will return to the golf course.
‘My ankle is fine. Where they fused my ankle, I have absolutely no problem whatsoever,” Woods said Tuesday.
‘That pain is completely gone. It is the other areas that have been compensated.’
Woods also compared it to when he underwent fusion surgery on his lower back. He said the L5 and S1 vertebrae were fine.

“But in the surrounding areas I had all my problems and I still have them,” he said. “So you fix one, others have to become more hypermobile to get around it, and that can lead to problems.”
Of course, it wouldn’t take much for Woods to get everyone’s attention about when he might be able to play again.
Two years ago, he posted a video of one wave and two words — “Making progress” — that ultimately led to him playing in the PNC Championship with his son Charlie just 10 months after his car accident outside Los Angeles.
This time all he did was walk.
Woods caddied for his son at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship, and various video footage let him walk and carrying the bag. This was a week after Stewart Cink said in a Golf Channel interview that Woods told him he had started practicing.
For what remains to be seen.
“I’m pretty sore after four days of caddying,” Woods said. “It was a flat course, thank God.”
Woods announced 19 players for the 20-man field at his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas the week after Thanksgiving.

Because it is sanctioned by the PGA Tour, it would require running 72 holes. However, one spot remains open and the tournament host is exempt.
More likely is the PNC Championship, where Woods and 14-year-old Charlie have competed for the past two years. That is sanctioned by the PGA Tour Champions, meaning carts are allowed. Woods used a cart both times.
