Tiger Woods: Michael Johnson SLAMS golf icon for his limp apology after his tampon ‘prank’

Olympic legend Michael Johnson has criticized Tiger Woods for his feeble apology after he faced fierce backlash for strangely handing Justin Thomas a tampon at the Genesis Invitational.

Woods was seen giving Thomas a tampon during his first round of the tournament, insisting it was supposed to be “fun and games”, but came under fire from women’s empowerment groups, Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman and now Johnson.

The 47-year-old later apologized for the outdated joke, saying that he and his friends like to play pranks on each other.

Woods said: “It was all supposed to be fun and games but obviously it didn’t turn out that way and if I offended anybody that wasn’t the case.”

‘They were just friends having fun. Like I said, if I offended anyone in any way, shape or form, I’m sorry. It wasn’t meant to be that way. We prank each other all the time and virally, I think this didn’t look that way, but between us it was different.

Johnson was not at all convinced by Woods’ apology, insisting that the golf icon has not learned from the many mistakes he has made.

Johnson, who won four Olympic gold medals as a sprinter, took to Twitter to criticize Woods.

He wrote: ‘Apology beginning with “If I offended anyone” is not an apology. But this is Tiger. He has never been a leader and he is Teflon.

‘Still posted after all the bugs so you haven’t learned anything. The media always focus on the miraculous recovery. Never why the need for recovery.

The prank sparked a backlash on social media and among the golfing community.

After slipping the tampon into Thomas’s hand, his fellow American immediately tossed it to the ground, while Woods went into hysterics, clearly happy with his prank.

He then put his arm around Thomas, who was also smiling at the funny side of the incident.

Cameras quickly picked up that it was a tampon that had been put in Thomas’s hand before he threw it away.

The distance to the hole in women’s golf is often not as long as their men’s counterparts, and it seems that Woods may have been suggesting that Thomas would be better prepared to play a shorter course with her gesture.

Renowned golf presenter Sarah Stirk, furious with the idea, slammed Woods, criticizing him for being “rude.”

Both Woods and Thomas saw the funny side of the joke, which came after he bested the latter.

Golf influencer Paige Spiranac has jumped to Woods’ defense amid anger directed at the 47-year-old, speaking of the ‘hypocrisy’ of certain women.

‘If anyone tries to cancel Tiger over this, we’ll riot. It’s funny,” Spiranac wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

“It’s interesting to see women outraged that Tiger put JT in a tampon after he wore it, but I’ll be quickly shot down by those same women for how I’ve decided to build my business.” You can’t choose when to be a feminist.

In response to another tweet, Spiranac added: “Women say sexist things to men (and other women) all the time, but are too self-involved to see the hypocrisy.”
