The launch of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s simulator golf competition could be postponed after an overnight power outage caused deflation and damage to the air-supported dome portion of the Florida-based venue, TGL said Wednesday.
There were no injuries and no technology was affected at the Palm Beach Gardens arena, where 24 PGA Tour players competed in match play using a simulator screen and customizable putting surface, beginning Jan. 9 in primetime.
βAt this time, while we are assessing the damage, it is too early to determine the impact on our timelines,β TGL said in an emailed statement to Reuters.
Built on the campus of Palm Beach State College, the SoFi Center is a 250,000-square-foot venue with a 70-foot-tall summit that can accommodate approximately 1,600 people on game nights during TGL’s inaugural season.
The track within the venue will be infused with various technologies and will cover an area approximately the size of an American football field.

Announced in August 2022, the TGL is a made-for-TV golf competition from Woods and McIlroy’s TMRW Sports company and both golfers have committed to competing in the competition.
TGL will feature six teams of four-player PGA Tour players including Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele.
The six teams are based in Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Jupiter, Florida.
So far, only a few members of each team have been revealed: the full rosters for Atlanta and Boston have already been announced.
