Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s ‘awesome’ TGL debut gets thumbs up from fans on star-studded night
Fans praised Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new TGL golf competition after tuning into the first night of the new format on ESPN.
The competition kicked off on Tuesday night when New York took on The Bay at the state-of-the-art SoFi Center in Florida, and fans were immediately hooked.
While creators Woods and McIlroy watched from the stands, players like Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick saw off against Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg and Wyndham Clark.
While fans in the arena cheered and booed every shot, those watching on TV at home took to social media to have their say – and it was a remarkably positive one for the first night of the competition.
‘I’m completely into TGL. This is awesome!,” one person wrote, while another added, “This is so cool… I love the fast-paced game!”
Elsewhere, someone commented that “if they don’t rent that facility to people, they’re missing out!”

To the delight of fans in the Palm Beach Gardens arena, the action was fast and flowing, with The Bay quickly taking a huge lead thanks to a series of big moments, including a monster putt from Aberg that lifted the roof off SoFi. Center.
“The only thing better than TGL is Ludvig Aberg,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Ludvig Aberg could be TGL’s breakout star.”

ESPN broadcasts the tournament every Tuesday night, with six teams competing for the SoFi Cup.
Woods’ Jupiter Links make their debut next Tuesday against the Los Angeles Golf Club of Tommy Fleetwood and Collin Morikawa.
McIlroy’s Boston Common will make their first appearance in Week 4 of the tournament in late January, taking on Woods in a blockbuster late-in-the-first month.
