Haddish was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, although she revealed this in an episode of SHE MD podcast, she said she didn’t see much of a future for her.
“(There was) so much destruction around me” that she “thought I wasn’t going to make it.” I didn’t even think I would make it to 21,” she admitted.
“I thought I was going to die before I was 21 because people were getting shot around me,” she continued.

But despite that foreboding feeling, she said she still wanted to be an entertainer and make a positive difference in the world.
“I’ve been to so many funerals,” she said. “So many of my friends were murdered. There was so much destruction around me that I just…I didn’t think I was going to make it.”
